Arena Reports
6/12 TNA in St. Joseph, Mo.: Beer Money vs. Angle & Steiner, Morgan vs. Abyss, Homicide back on the road Jun 12, 2009 - 11:06:23 PM
TNA house show report
June 12, 2009
St. Joseph, Mo.
Report by Brad Meyer, Torch reader
I'm going to guess the 5,000 seat arena had 2,000 fans with modest effort.
(1) Consequences Creed beat Sheik Abdul Bashir. Bashir threatens to leave and never return to town if crowd won't quit chanting USA. Creed drags him back when he tries to leave. Creed wins with a cutter. (*)
(2) Awesome Kong beat ODB. ODB played babyface and failed twice at a bodyslam. She eventually hit a sloppy one, but no victory. Kong wins by Implant Buster. She was playing a tweener to ODB's face role.
(3) Eric Young beat Jay Lethal. Young played arrogant. Crowd thought he was a face until on the mic. Young said he has a lot going in his life and wanted to put it behind him, then he suckerpunched Lethal. Young wins via wheelbarrel suplex. (*1/2)
(4) X Division champion Suicide beat Daniels and Homicide in an X Division Title Three Way match. Daniels seemed to be popular with smart fans, while Suicide had the kid cheers. Suicide wins by Suicide Solution on Homicide. Creative match. (**)
[Intermission]
(5) Abyss beat Matt Morgan in a No DQ match. "We want tables" and "we want thumbtacks" chants. Abyss with win by throwing Morgan into chair in corner. Chair was only weapon & gently used. No sense in an injury for a house show. (1/2*)
(6) Beer Money (James Storm & Robert Roode) beat Scott Steiner & Kurt Angle (with a stubbly beard) in the main event. JB introduced Angle as Mafia Godfather. Uh-huh.
Storm/Roode were way over. Roode partially pulled Angle's pants down. Roode kicked out of Angle Slam, then Storm spit beer in Angle's face. DWI and Beer Money wins. (**)
Angle breaks character after the match and thanks fans. $20 for in-ring photo with him. Free autographs with others at ringside.
I won JB's backstage pass on Twitter and met ODB, Lethal, Creed, Suicide, and Abyss. All were great and broke character except Suicide. I asked Suicide if he's Kaz, but he shook his head no.
Before the show, Abyss was a guest weatherman for our local newscast and choked out an anchor :) TV doesn't do justice to his size. He has a marketing degree and is a cool guy.
Having seen a TNA and Smackdown house show here, my group said hands-down this was better. More interactive, better matches, more fun.
