Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) show #99 report
April 11, 2009
Reseda, Calif.
Report by Matt Massingham, PWTorch.com correspondent
(1) Scott Lost & Cutler Brothers beat Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre) & Scorpio Sky. Scott needs a booking in Ring of Honor already.
(2) Bryan Danielson beat Chuck Taylor via submission. Real good match combining comedy and in-ring work. Danielson nailed ten elbow strikes and applied Cattle Mutilation for the submission victory.
(3) Joey Ryan beat B-Boy. Solid match with Joey actually throwing in a few suplexes and B-Boy executing a number of high-impact movies. Joey tried to win with the Moustache Ride, but B-Boy kicked out. B-Boy came back with a Shining Wizard for a nearfall. Joey's hired help came to the ring when he was in trouble to run a distraction, which allowed Joey to roll up B-Boy for a three count.
(4) Kenny Omega beat Davey Richards. Story of the match was Omega refusing to hit the ropes since he broke them at the Battle of Los Angeles tournament last year. Davey used strikes and power moves, but Omega fought back and hit a German Suplex out of the electric chair for the pin.
(5) Sonjay Dutt beat Roderick Strong. Roderick controlled the majority of the match since Dutt was booked to win in his PWG debut. Strong with an array of back-breakers and power offense, but Dutt came back with a Sliced Bread and 450 splash for the win.
(6) El Generico beat Tyler Black. Good action to start with, then Tyler threw Generico to the floor. Generico fought back with a Michinoku Driver, but Tyler came back with an enziguiri kick for a nearfall. Black missed with the top-rope Phoenix Splash, but he landed on his feet and nailed a superkick. Generico kicked out, then came back with an Ole kick in the corner followed by a brainbustah suplex for the win.
(7) PWG champion Chris Hero (w/Candace) beat Austin Aries to retain the PWG Title. Really good match with Aries playing the heel and Hero playing the babyface champion. Aries to distract Hero by kissing Candace, but Hero fired up and nailed a series of roaring elbow strikes for the win.
After the match, Hero cut a promo on Aries and issued a challenge for Candace vs. Aries on Sunday's show. Aries accepted. ... Joey Ryan then came out and cut a promo on former WWE wrestler Paul London for their match tomorrow night. London then ran to the ring and chased off Joey. He then cut another strange promo with a promise to introduce Joey to his Easter Bunny Revenge on Sunday.
(8) PWG tag team champions Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) beat Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) to retain the PWG tag titles. Main event was one heck of a match. It's a shame Sabin & Shelley aren't free from TNA. Young Bucks retained the belts with their "More Bang for Your Buck" double-team finishing move. Afterward, Guns cut a promo thanking Bucks and PWG.
