12/27 ROH in New York City: Danielson vs. Morishima, Nigel McGuinness defends ROH Title, Austin Aries development Dec 28, 2008 - 2:50:38 AM
Ring of Honor "Final Battle 2008" Report
December 27, 2008
New York City at the Hammerstein Ballroom
Report by Matt Massingham, PWTorch contributor
(1) Kenny Omega beat Claudio Castagnoli after he countered the Ricola Bomb into a small package for the pin.
(2) Jerry Lynn beat Chris Hero, Rhett Titus, and Necro Butcher with the Cradle Shock in a four-corner survival match.
After the match, Jimmy Jacobs ran out to the ring to bad-mouth Necro Butcher, leading to Delirious running in to beat down Necro. Kevin Steen and El Generico then made the save, leading to the next match.
(3) ROH tag team champions Kevin Steen & El Generico beat Delirious & Jimmy Jacobs with the combination of Package Piledriver and Brainbuster on Delirious.
(4) Brent Albright & Roderick Strong & Erick Stevens beat Sweet 'n Sour Inc.'s Eddie Edwards & Davey Richards & FIP champion Go Shiozaki when Shiozaki tapped out to Albright's crowbar. After the match, Edwards and Davey left the ring without Shiozaki.
(5) Jay & Mark Briscoe beat GHC champion Kensuke Sasaki & Katsuhiko Nakajima with the Doomsday Device. After the match, Sweet 'n Sour ran in and attacked the Briscoes, bringing back out Steen & Generico. The tag champs were neutiralized until Strong, Stevens, and Albright made the save. Afterwards, Albright cut a promo saying SNS would ruin ROH and he challenged them to a cage match at the next show, which Cary Silkin agreed to.
(6) Austin Aries beat Tyler Black after Jimmy Jacobs came to ringside. Black missed with the Phoenix splash, then Aries hit the brainbuster and top-rope 450 splash combo for the pin. Afterward, Jacobs kicked Black in the groin and locked him in the End Times submission, but Aries made the save. Aries then turned on Black and attacked him with Jacobs, so Black appears to be out of the Age of the Fall.
(7) ROH champion Nigel McGuinness beat Marufuji with a jawbreaker to retain the ROH Title.
(8) Bryan Danielson beat Morishima in a Fight Without Honor main event. Danielson used the elbow strikes to the shoulder with a chain wrapped around his arm to score the win.
