ROH live event report
September 20, 2008
Philadelphia, Pa.
Report by Daniel Chornomaz, PWTorch.com correspondent
Crowd was packed into the historic arena.
(1) Jerry Lynn defeated Kenny King . Crowd chanted "you still have it" at Jerry Lynn.
(2) Adam Pearce defeated Brent Albright to regain the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Pearce worked extensively on Albright's injured arm.
(3) Go Shiozaki defeated Kevin Steen in a FIP Championship Match: Despite the loss, Steen continues to be very over with the crowd.
After the match, Nigel attacks Steen and delivers an excellent heel promo.
(4) Bryan Danielson defeated Katsuhiko Nakajima with the Cattle Mutilation to retain the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship. Best match of the show.
INTERMISSION
(5) Erick Stevens defeated Rhett "Addicted to Love" Titus. Erick had hardway blood pouring out of his nose afrer just a minute or two. They appeared to go to the finish quickly.
After the match, Sweeney and the rest of the Sweet and Sour came out. Sweeney offered Erick Stevens a contract to join the crew. Stevens declined by wiping his bloodied nose with the contract. SNS beat him down and knee dropped him on a chair.
(6) Sweet & Sour Inc. defeated Roderick Strong & The Vulture Squad. Hero and Strong have fallen in stature in ROH and neither looked impressive.
(7) Kensuke Sasaki defeated Claudio Castagnoli . Sasaki showing his age, but crowd was respectful.
(8) Nigel McGuinness defeated El Generico to retain the ROH World championship. Very good match with many near falls. Even with outside help from Kevin Steen, El Generico could not put Nigel away.
(9) Austin Aries & The Briscoes defeated Age of The Fall & The Necro Butcher in a Steel Cage Warfare match. Necro Butcher (the one man team) was eliminated first. Finish saw the Briscoes pin Tyler Black and Jimmy Jacobs at the same time to win the match. During the match, Daize Haze came into the cage through the open section (there was no door),and begged Delirious not to use the spike. He ended up spiking Daize who was then taken out to the back.
ROH returns to Philadelphia to the Alhambra Arena on 12-26-08.
TIPS FOR SENDING IN HOUSE SHOW REPORTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to pwtorch@gmail.com.
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the & symbol as opposed to stating and. Reserve use of and when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
