6/14 WWE Raw in Idaho: Early review of Ted DiBiase's ring work, plus Mickie James, Cena, Hardy Jun 20, 2008 - 1:03:44 PM
WWE Smackdown/ECW house show
June 14, 2008
Boise, Idaho
Report by Travis Adams, PWTorch.com reader
At 7:00 p.m., the doors of Taco Bell Arena were opened and people started filing in the building. In the entrance lobby, they were heavily promoting The McMahon Million Dollar Sweepstakes, and giving out information on how to enter, so the big push is on for Mondays Raw in Salt Lake City.
To open the card, Tony Chimel announced that Triple H would not be appearing for the night's show and that refunds were available at the ticket window before the opening bell. I didn't see anybody get out of their chair, and after weeks of promoting a Championship Match in our market, I do not fault the WWE in anyway, I fault the political stroke of their top representative & WWE Champion for not making his booking.
Maria was in the crowd and moved a family of four into the front row and gave them 200 Dollars of McMahons Millions. Attendance was maybe a quarter full.
(1) Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly defeated Cryme Time & London & Kendrick in a Tag Team Triple Threat Match. Crowd was solid for Bob Holly as Him and Rhodes retained the Tag Belts following an Alabama Slam on Paul London for the finish.
(2) Ted DiBiase Jr. defeated "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. DiBiase cut a promo on Rhodes & Holly before the match. His style is very similar to his fathers with the inverted fist drop and how he takes bumps. He will translate well on TV. He beat Duggan with a schoolboy pin.
(3) Trevor Murdoch defeated Charlie Haas. Murdoch did his Country Singer schtick with a parody of "Mama dont let your babies grow up to be Cowboys" directed at Charlie Haas, but the crowd was simply dead for this one.
(4) Super Crazy defeated Santino Marella. Santino is very entertaining live, he grabbed the mic and told the crowd that since they were fighting in the Taco Bell Arena, when he beat Super Crazy he would make him say on the House Mic, "Yo Quiero Taco Bell". Santino did the Job to Super Crazy as to avoid a possible incident. Santino had good heat, and perked the crowd up.
(5) Jeff Hardy defeated Lance Cade. Hardy is very over with the younger crowd and should be WWE Champion, It would be a license to print money instead of give it away for WWE. Cade also should become a solid singles performer as this was a decent match. Hardy's whisper in the wind was ugly, but the crowd simply did not care less. He went over Cade with a perfect Swanton Bomb. Great Crowd Reaction.
-Intermission-
(6) Mickie James defeated Beth Phoenix with a Backlund Bridge to retain the WWE Womens Championship. Both Ladies were solid and the crowd was into this match coming off of the intermission. Speaking of Women, Torrie Wilson was rumoured to be making her final WWE appearance here in Boise, but sadly, this did not come to fruition.
(7) Shawn Michaels defeated Snitsky. Michaels came out with a white bandage above his eye to sell the Jericho Attack from Mondays Raw. He made Snitsky look great and this match exceeded my expectations. Michaels defeated Snitsky with the Superkick and proved that he can have excellent matches with practically anybody.
(8) John Cena defeated Umaga in a No Disqualifcation Match. Cena received the Largest Reaction of the night. The Kids love him, and the adults booed him, as the norm. He deserves his credit though, because he is reliable, love him or hate him. Umaga dominated throughout the match until Cena made his comeback and put away the big samoan with the F-U. If WWE goes in a more kid friendly manner they could do worse then giving the ball to Cena.
Overall, this was a lackluster card. WWE needs to get serious about getting their talent over and creating fresh programs. If this was the first wrestling event you ever attended, you might not attend another. I do know that cards are subject to change but they advertised Triple H & JBL for weeks and they need to go the extra mile for people who paid for a ticket to get their money's worth. I think McMahon should call me up on Monday and give me back half at least half of my ticket price. I hope they can turn morale around and that they can be sucessful for the people who do work their asses off and love the business.
Biggest Pops:
1. Cena
2. Hardy
3. HBK
Most Heat:
1. Umaga
2. Santino
3. Snitsky
TIPS FOR SENDING IN HOUSE SHOW REPORTS
If you attend an arena event in future, either house shows or TV tapings, we encourage you to send us a report for publication. You can direct your reports to pwtorch@gmail.com.
We accept reports in any format, but if it's not much trouble, please format your report like you see above, with the matches numbered like this (1) , (2) , (3) , with the opening line of each match paragraph stating who beat whom (don't just say Wrestler A vs. Wrestler beat with the result listed later; instead, state up front who won so those readers who don't have time to read the entire report (i. e. their boss walks past their cubicle all the time looking beat their shoulder) can at least quickly assess the results.
Also, please list tag teams using the & symbol as opposed to stating and. Reserve use of and when listing results in a three-way or four-way match where there are no teams (i. e. Wrestler A beat Wrestler B and Wrestler C in a three-way match ) so it is easy to differentiate a handicap match from a three-way match.
If you know HTML coding for bolding, you can also bold out the first line of each match description. If you don't know HTML symbols, then we can add those ourselves.
Special thanks to everyone who helps us with reports on live events!
