SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
SHOW SUMMARY: Ryan Droste from the “Top Rope Nation” podcast returns to Pro Wrestling Then and Now to look back on and discuss WrestleMania 13. They discuss the entire card, which featured the pivotal submission match Bret “Hitman” Hart vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin with Ken Shamrock as the special guest referee. Extensive discussion is had pertaining to the many title changes that took place between Survivor Series 1996 until WrestleMania, and all the machinations behind why that was the case. They talk about how Shawn Michaels’ and Bret Hart’s contentious relationship affected WWF booking throughout 1997 and beyond, as well as the benefits of having the Undertaker winning the title here and holding it throughout that year. They close out with an alternate universe discussion of what would have happened had Shawn not “lost his smile” and lost the title to Bret at this event, which was the original plan.
