LAS VEGAS, NV AT ORLEANS ARENA
AIRED ON SINCLAIR AFFILIATES & ROHWRESTLING.COM
REPORT BY HARLEY R. PAGEOT, PWTORCH CONTRIBUTOR

Commentary: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman

We opened with a narrated video package hyping the tag team and television championships both being on the line tonight as well as Sabin vs. Scurll.

-Opening theme.

-In the arena it was supposed to be Scurll-Sabin to start but Coast 2 Coast came out instead. LSG said they’ve waited this long and they’re not waiting any longer. Shaheem Ali told the Briscoes to get their *bleeped* out here. The Briscoes walked out menacingly and Mark told some fans at ringside that they were stupid, back firmly in heel mode after playing babyfaces at Glory By Honor nine nights ago. Bobby Cruise handled full championship introductions. “Man up” chant from the crowd.

(1) THE BRISCOES (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe) vs. COAST 2 COAST (LSG & Shaheem Ali) – ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Mark and LSG started. Mark wrestled LSG to the mat and clubbed the side of his head. LSG came back with chops and tagged Ali. Mark distracted while Jay jumped him from behind. Jay stomped him down in the heel corner. [C]

Mark hit a gutwrench side slam on Ali for a one-count. Mark went after Ali’s neck. Hot tag to LSG. The Human Rocket went to town on Mark including hitting a running blockbuster. Blind tag from Jay but LSG avoided his attack. Jay tossed him to ringside and baited Ali into a dropkick from Mark. Jay bodyslammed LSG on the floor and Mark hit a Cactus Jack elbow drop. Jay hurled Ali into the guardrail. Mark worked over LSG in the ring. Jay hit a running big boot. [C]

Jay antagonized Ali on the apron while Mark choked LSG behind the ref’s back. Enziguiri from LSG. Tag to Ali. He hit a sidewalk slam on Mark but Jay caught him with a boot. Ali and Mark traded chops. Ali with a discus clothesline. Jay tagged in and hit a neckbreaker. Mark tagged back in and hit a fisherman’s buster. The champs double-teamed Ali. Redneck boogie but Ali kicked out at two. LSG hit a rolling kip-up clothesline as things broke down. Flatliner + STO combo from C2C to Mark. LSG kicked Jay out of the ring and they hit coast to coast on Mark. LSG followed with a top rope 450 splash but Jay broke up the pin. They dumped Jay again and set Mark up for a double superplex. Jay made the save, cleared LSG, and Ali took the doomsday device for the clean win.

WINNERS: The Briscoes in 17:54 to retain the tag titles.

(Pageot’s Perspective: It felt far too soon for C2C to get a title shot considering Ali just returned from injury. Yes, they were undefeated and on a roll before he was the victim of a car accident but they could have used more time to be reintroduced first. When they were brawling on the floor I thought maybe we might get a double count-out to save C2C taking the loss here. For that matter, this would have been a perfect opportunity for a time-limit draw, a former staple of ROH that they’ve all but done away with in recent years. Instead C2C took the clean pin. It was a very competitive match and meant to be reminiscent of their breakthrough win over War Machine at the start of this year. Admittedly it did just that and likely turned some heads in their direction. The follow-up with C2C will be key here.)

-Quick shots of Cobb and Martinez warming up backstage.

-Jay Lethal was backstage to address Matt Taven. He said Taven may be the one with the problem but Lethal will be the one to solve it. [C]

-Taven, TK O’Ryan, and Vinny Marseglia were backstage. Taven held up his purple belt and called himself the real ROH World Champion.

-The Briscoes were pacing backstage and mocked C2C no longer being undefeated. They talked up how many days they’ve been champions and asked who’s going to stop them.

-Video package on Jeff Cobb beating up all the rookies in the Top Prospect Tournament before confronting and laying out Punishment Martinez at Death Before Dishonor. The new PWG World Champion entered first. The ROH TV champion entered second and Cruise gave full championship introductions again.

(2) PUNISHMENT MARTINEZ vs. JEFF COBB – ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

They went face to face. Martinez with a thunderclap. Cobb with a shoulder tackle. Martinez with a clothesline but Cobb no-sold. Martinez with the Silencer. He looked for a second but Cobb flipped him. Clothesline. Tour Of The Islands.

WINNER: Jeff Cobb in 1:27 to capture the TV title.

(Pageot’s Perspective: Cobb is a beast and the biggest ROH signing since Cody. He was huge in Lucha Underground and currently sits at the top of PWG as their world champion and 2018 Battle Of Los Angeles winner. If Martinez weren’t already signed with NXT this match could have been questionable but instead it’s probably a great call. It puts Cobb over big right out of the gate and, like his early days in LU, really makes you wonder who can possibly hang against him.)

-Tenille Dashwood was shown walking backstage with her arm in a sling. [C]

-Dashwood made her entrance. Footage played of her match against Sumie Sakai at Death Before Dishonor and her later being found injured backstage by an unknown assailant. People keep asking her how she is and she keeps saying fine but that’s not really the truth. She asked if she could be real with the crowd. The truth is she has an autoimmune disease, a skin condition, and a shoulder injury now too. She’s been wrestling through it for the past six months because not being able to wrestle scares the hell out of her. She started to tear up and fans applauded in support. She was attacked from behind at Death Before Dishonor and she’s pissed off because she doesn’t know who attacked her and, even if she did, she couldn’t do anything about it. She has to have shoulder surgery now but vowed revenge when she comes back at 100%.

(Pageot’s Perspective: Good promo from Dashwood. The Women Of Honor very rarely get extended mic time in front of the live crowd so it sucks that her first big chance will be the last for a long while. I’m not sure how they’ll handle her mystery attacker story going forward but I’m intrigued to find out. Maybe Nikki Cross saw something?)

-Adam Page was backstage. He faces Scorpio Sky next week. Page talked about his love for Las Vegas and said it will be the worst town Sky has ever been in. [C]

-Chris Sabin had a picture-in-picture promo during his entrance. He talked about spirit animals and said he’ll defeat the villain and become a hero.

(3) “THE VILLAIN” MARTY SCURLL vs. “CONSTELLATION” CHRIS SABIN

Chain wrestling to start. They were mirror images with a flex-off and both men attempting kicks at the same time. They asked referee Paul Turner to help separate them. Scurll hit two running European uppercuts and a superkick. [C]

They traded straitjacket holds. Dueling chants for both men from the crowd. Missile dropkick from Sabin. Running kick along the apron to Scurll on the floor. Slingshot neckbreaker. They traded pin attempts. Scurll with a superplex. Sabin looked for a roll-up but Scurll escaped and hit a superkick. They traded chops. Sabin with a jackknife pin but Scurll kicked out. Scurll with a suplex into the chicken-wing but Sabin escaped. Power bomb into Graduation.

WINNER: Marty Scurll in 10:13.

(Pageot’s Perspective: Fine match with the story of them constantly mirroring each other. Sabin seems to be slowly connecting with the fans as a singles wrestler. The fact that Scurll didn’t rely on a low blow or fistful of powder to win might be significant? It’s so hard to gauge anything with his character. At Glory By Honor he was the most heelish he’s been in a long, long time with him and Page stomping the tar out of Hurricane and Scurll unmasking him. That felt big at the time but I just don’t know anymore. I fear it might just be the two of them joining Cody in the shades of gray category where they’re heels one week and babyfaces the next whenever it suits the booking.)

-Next week: it’s Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham vs. Jushin Thunder Liger & Kushida and Adam Page vs. Scorpio Sky.
