SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
WWE has announced a super-show planned for Melbourne, Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground outdoor stadium on Oct. 6. The featured match is Undertaker vs. Triple H, being billed by WWE as their last match ever. Vince McMahon characterized it as “ending an iconic era in WWE.”
McMahon said it’s the first time WWE will broadcast live from Melbourne, Australia live on WWE Network.
He said “practically every” pro wrestler from Raw and Smackdown will be on the event including John Cena and Ronda Rousey, plus appearances by Shawn Michaels, Big Show, and Kurt Angle. Brock Lesnar is not advertised.
In another video announcement regarding this event, Triple H talked about how he broke ground by wrestling The Rock at the Global Warming PPV in 2002 and that Australia has been WWE’s “home away from home.” He mentioned Cena, Roman Reigns, Sasha Banks, Braun Strowman, Charlotte, A.J. Styles, New Day, Daniel Bryan, and Ronda Rousey on his list of wrestlers scheduled.
Regarding facing Undertaker, he said it’s been six years since they battled. He called it one of WWE’s greatest rivalries and people thought it was “dead and buried,” but “legends never day.” He went into promo mode and promised Undertaker “this is no game.” He asked Melbourne, “Are you ready?”
Could have sworn they had their end of an era match 6 years ago.
Looks like one heck of a card. The major stars not even mentioned yet by HHH could do a Wrestlemania level show. I’m hoping the lack of a Shinske announcement doesn’t mean he’s getting his release?
