SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

FloSports VP Toby Mergler has been fired according to multiple PWTorch sources close to the situation. Mergler, who had numerous duties as FloSports VP, made all of the content deals for FloSlam. Mergler is credited by many as being the driving force behind bringing professional wrestling to FloSlam when he came to the company in the summer of 2016. Mergler took former FloSlam Managing Editor Jeremy Botter’s proposal to Flo management and convinced them that wrestling could be a potentially lucrative opportunity and now both men are gone from the company. Brent Brookhouse remains as Senior Editior at FloSlam.

Radican’s Analysis: FloSlam has lost a lot of buzz since Managing Editor Jeremy Botter was fired late in 2016. Botter and Mergler were the team behind bringing wrestling to FloSlam and less than a year since the service launched, they are both gone. Brookhouse remains on board with FloSlam as Senior Editor.

It’s going to be interesting to see if FloSports does anything to grow FloSlam going forward. The company has been slow to sign deals with exciting new indie companies for content. It seemed like the sky was the limit in terms of the kind of exposure that FloSlam could offer indies when it launched last November, but now it is simply trucking along with EVOLVE as its centerpiece.
