SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

AXS TV released a press release to PWTorch today announcing that they will air three months of NJPW’s G1 Climax 27 tournament. The tournament, which concluded last weekend, is widely regarded as the best G1 Climax in history.

The shows will begin airing Aug. 18 with Jim Ross and Josh Barnett on commentary. Each of the first eight episodes will feature two of the best matches from an A or B block event along with highlights of other matches. The shows will air every Friday night at 8p.m. EST. The lineups for the final four episodes will be announced at a later date.

AXS has released the lineups for the first eight episodes:

Aug. 18 – A Block – Kota Ibushi vs. Tetsuya Naito, Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

Aug. 25 – B Block – Minoru Suzuki vs. Kenny Omega, SANADA vs. EVIL

Sept. 1 – A Block – YOSHI-HASHI vs. Tetsuya Naito, Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Bad Luck Fale

Sept. 8 – B Block – Michael Elgin vs. Kazuchika Okada, Kenny Omega vs. Tama Tonga

Sept. 15 – A Block – Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kota Ibushi, Hirooki Goto vs. Tetsuya Naito

Sept. 22 – B Block – Kazuchika Okada vs. EVIL, Juice Robinson vs. Kenny Omega

Sept. 29 – A Block – Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tomohiro Ishii, Togi Makabe vs. Tetsuya Naito

Oct. 6 – B Block – Kazuchika Okada vs. Minoru Suzuki, Michael Elgin vs. EVIL

The line-ups for the final four episodes of AXS TV’s coverage will be announced at a later date.

AXS TV has also released a preview of this weeks episode, which can be seen below:

Radican’s Analysis: If you didn’t watch G1 Climax as it unfolded, i highly suggest watching AXS TV’s coverage of the tournament over the next few months. It’s really tough to pick only two matches to air from each night, as some nights of the tournament had three great matches. It looks like some shows are going to get skipped all together as well if I’m reading the press release correctly, which is a shame.

This tournament knocked it out of the park and it would have been cool if AXS had been able to extend this to 18-19 episodes to cover the whole tournament. Looking at the match listing, it seems like AXS got it right in terms of presenting the best action from the shows announced so far. I would imagine the final four episodes would feature a heavy selection of the matches from the final three nights of action on the tournament, which should include Okada vs. Omega from night 18, the A and B block finals, and the G1 Climax Final.
