Taped at Full Sail University
Aired on WWE Network
(1) TM61 (Shane Thorne & Nick Miller) beat Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari, representing the Cruiserweight tournament. Lots of high-flying and more impressive WWE work from Nese in defeat. Thorne & Miller combined for a lift-up slam on Daivari for the win.
Sit-down interview: NXT Women’s champion Asuka claimed responsibility for cleaning out the NXT Women’s division. She said the call-ups got saved not having to face her anymore. Tom Phillips asked if anyone is ready to challenge her for the title. Asuka shook her head no. “No one is ready for Asuka,” she said.
Backstage: Steve Cutler was interviewed asked about facing NXT champion Shinsuke Nakamura tonight in the main event. Cutler vowed to earn respect.
(2) Ember Moon beat an enhancement wrestler identified as Leah Vaughn in a match to showcase Moon’s top-rope twisting Stunner at Full Sail.
(3) Austin Aries beat Andrade “Cien” Almas via submission to the Last Chancery. The crowd was split between Aries and Almas in this match, which ended with Aries countering a springboard move into a powerbomb, flowing into the Chancery. Aries sent a message to Hideo Itami after the match.
On commentary for the main event, Samoa Joe played the humbled former champion realizing that he underestimated Shinsuke Nakamura in Brooklyn. Then, he watched Nakamura be introduced as NXT champion and he started seething. Joe’s breathing became heavy and uncomfortable, trying to remain calm. Corey Graves poked Joe about that, then Joe tried to be calm saying Nakamura was the better man in Brooklyn. How is the jaw? Joe said they discovered some other things that need to be cleared before he can try to re-capture the NXT Title.
(4) NXT champion Shinsuke Nakamura beat Steve Cutler in Nakamura’s first match back at Full Sail since winning the NXT Title. Nakamura dominated, then absorbed an attack from Cutler. Nakamura finished Cutler with the Kinshashe for the pin and the win.
Post-match, Joe continued to struggle with this scene of Nakamura standing in the ring with the NXT Title. Nakamura posed with the belt in the ring, then NXT replayed the finish, reminding Joe of when he took a blow to the jaw in Brooklyn. The camera continued to cut back and forth between Nakamura and Joe, who eventually stood up at the broadcast position and looked into the ring. Joe couldn’t take it anymore and left commentary to the back. Nakamura posed in the ring to close the show. Nice pacing building to Joe exploding on a future episode.
