When Figures Toy Co. inked A.J. Styles to an action figure deal in 2015, the “Phenomenal One” was the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. What a difference a year makes.
Styles debuted for WWE at the Royal Rumble and after some ups and downs, he has quickly become one of the company’s top stars. He has already main-evented several WWE Network Live Specials and is quickly becoming the top guy on Smackdown.
The timing has worked out pretty well for Figures Toy Co. The company announced today that fans and collectors can now pre-order Styles’s new action figure from the Rising Stars of Wrestling line.
The figure has A.J. in black and blue attire, with a more current version of his hairstyle. The figure comes with a removable black hooded vest, along with a guardrail accessory. Chris DePetrillo, chief marketing officer for Figures Toy Co., noted that all future releases will come with some sort of weapon accessory.
“We expect A.J. to sell very fast,” DePetrillo said. “It is the only modern A.J. available now – guaranteed to sell quickly.”
The A.J. Styles figure is only available for pre-order at FiguresToyCompany.com, and it will be delivered to customers in October, according to DePetrillo. Each figure is $29.99 plus shipping, and is packaged in a re-sealable case.
Styles’s jump to WWE caused a substantial spike in interest of his TNA Deluxe Impact figures from Jakks Pacific. Jakks made several different figures of Styles from 2010 to 2012, but all with the same basic head sculpt.
The last figure had him in black attire that resembled his last year in TNA, but the head still had a baby face that didn’t really match the character. Most loose figures have been selling on eBay for about $20-25 loose, or as much as $130 packaged.
Mattel also recently unveiled images of Styles’s first WWE action figures, but collectors likely won’t see those until next year.
