After being diagnosed with a torn labrum in his shoulder, Finn Balor was scheduled for surgery on Tuesday to begin the process of returning to the ring.

Balor, who is out for six months, talked to WWE’s website about a whirlwind 24 hours that included winning and relinquishing the Universal Title.

Balor said he felt his shoulder pop out a second time at the end of his Universal Title victory against Seth Rollins at Summerslam. He knew it was a serious injury, but he hoped to be able to rehab it for about a month and not have to drop the title.

Balor said he couldn’t sleep on Sunday night because his shoulder was in pain, he had a 5:55 a.m. wake-up call to visit “Good Morning America” on Monday morning, and he fought through the appearance before visiting the hospital.

Balor said he had an X-Ray that came back “pretty okay,” and he was thinking 4-8 weeks of recovery. But, then an MRI revealed a “complex labrum tear.” Balor said at that point, he knew that it wasn’t good.

Balor said he went to Raw and decided to relinquish the Universal Title. Balor, who was interviewed about an hour after his segment on Raw, said it felt good to carry the title, even for one night. “Deep down, I was joyful to be holding the title down to the ring,” Balor said.

Once he gave up the title, he walked back through the curtain and the fairytale ended; reality set in. “Okay, now you’re injured. You’re not the champ. You’re hurt. You have a 6:00 a.m. flight to Alabama, you’re having surgery tomorrow, and you’re going to be on the bench for six months,” Balor closed the interview.

Overall, Balor said he’s carrying a positive outlook into his recovery because while at GMA, he bumped into a man in the hallway who had no arm. And that put everything into perspective for him that he will have his shoulder back in six months.
