SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
– Former ESPN commentator Bill Simmons, who once guest-starred on Raw, is reportedly planning a documentary on Andre the Giant for HBO. According to the New York Post’s “Page Six,” Simmons is bringing documentary filmmaker Jonathan Hock with him to HBO to do a series of films, including the first one on Andre.
Former WWE announcer Jim Ross noted that he wants in on the project, writing in his latest blog at jrsbarbq.com: “I’d love to work with Bill Simmons on the Andre the Giant documentary that he’s doing for HBO.”
– Ross blogged in-depth on Seth Rollins’s major knee injury and how it will affect WWE plans going forward. Ross dealt with many of these types of situations as Head of Talent Relations during the Attitude Era, prompting an exercise in how to get from Point A to B heading to WrestleMania. “There are SO many ways that WWE can come out ahead on this unfortunate matter,” Ross concluded.
– Betting odds are also out for the replacement WWE Title tournament ending at Survivor Series. Roman Reigns is the favorite at -225, followed by Brock Lesnar and John Cena, who are both currently off TV. Dean Ambrose was not included in initial odds released by Paddy Power. Also, Reigns’s odds of being in the WWE Title match at WrestleMania jumped from -138 to -333 following Rollins’s injury news. (Thanks to PWTorch correspondent David)
– Bill Goldberg is not a fan of Vince McMahon and Donald Trump. So, he lumped them together in a soundbyte interview with TMZ, calling them “both off their rocker.” Goldberg has not been able to do business with McMahon since leaving WWE after WrestleMania 20 and he is still mad at Trump for firing him on “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2010.
– Nia Jax, one of the newest NXT women’s wrestlers, commented to WWE’s website that she did not think she would venture into the family wrestling business because of her size. However, she felt like she had a chance the first time she stepped in the ring.
“I have always been a bigger girl, and I did not think that WWE would want a girl my size, so I never expressed my dream to wrestle… I remember arriving to my tryout and being extremely nervous, but the second I stepped in the ring, I knew this was where I was supposed to be,” Jax said.
“I am completely different than any other Diva that we have in NXT, and having the advantage of being unique allows me to expand the revolution even further by showing people what a woman of my size can do. Ultimately, I want to convey an image of a beautiful, strong and confident woman. I want young girls to be inspired to love themselves and strive to follow their dreams no matter what.”
