SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

New Japan ace Hiroshi Tanahashi has been forced out of the “Dominion” PPV due to a reported injury. ROH star Michael Elgin will now be stepping in his place.

Tanahashi appeared at New Japan’s BOSJ show Friday in Tokyo to announce that he cannot challenge Kenny Omega for the IWGP Intercontinental Title at Dominion on June 19.

Tanahashi said he injured his shoulder in May. (New Japan then did an injury write-off on the first night of the BOSJ tournament to allow Tanahashi to heal in hopes of making Dominion.)

Tanahashi said doctors have disallowed him from competing against Omega, who now will face Elgin in the first-ever ladder match in New Japan.

Bullet Club’s Omega and Elgin have been battling in multi-man tag matches throughout the Super Jrs. tour. While standing on top of a ladder, Elgin officially challenged Omega to the new IC Title match Friday night.

Updated Dominion PPV Line-up

  • IWGP World Title match: Naito vs. Kazuchika Okada
  • IWGP IC Title match: Kenny Omega vs. Michael Elgin (replacing Tanahashi) in a ladder match
  • NEVER Openweight Title match: Yuji Nagata vs. Shibata
