SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
WWE executive/wrestler Triple H is in an interesting position as far as his future as a pro wrestler goes.
Hunter’s father-in-law, WWE CEO Vince McMahon, said during the build-up to WrestleMania that he thought it would be Hunter’s last WrestleMania match when Hunter defended the WWE World Title against Roman Reigns.
“I’m so proud of him, not just the years he’s spent in the ring and I don’t know how many more years that’s going to last. This may be his last WrestleMania. I don’t know. He’s a little long in the tooth as I say to his face and we all laugh about that now because I’m 70-years-old,” McMahon told the Orlando Sentinel in March promoting WM33 in Orlando.
Perhaps one contributor to McMahon’s thinking was how much pain Hunter felt on a daily basis in recent years. However, Hunter’s wife, Stephanie McMahon, said in a new interview that Hunter is no longer feeling pain when he wakes up in the morning because of a change in his training with Joe DeFranco.
Hunter, 46, also signed a three-year extension on his wrestling booking contract, setting up future matches along with his on-air role as an authority figure. In the interview with Joe DeFranco, Stephanie made it sound like Hunter has not wrestled his last Mania match.
DeFranco: “It’s a tough mindset shift (going to functional training). It was cool to see that it has helped that you don’t always have to go failure on every single exercise and you don’t always have to just squat as heavy as you can for low reps. Like, you could do the ‘lower level stuff,’ but as you’ve seen, it’s actually a lot harder when you do it. But, then you start noticing that not only do you look better, but your function in every-day life is better.”
Stephanie: “I have to say from a personal married perspective, my husband used to be like an old man trying to get out of bed. He would be in so much pain, his back would be stoved-up. His sport took a lot out of his body. Also, the way he was training didn’t necessarily help him. I have noticed since he started training with you, there is no issue. It’s great for me as his wife. He’s not in pain anymore when he goes to get up.”
