[HOUR ONE]
-They opened with a scene of the exterior of the venue with snow in the foreground. Excalibur said nearly a foot of snow fell. Then they went to the arena where pyro blasted as Excalibur hyped the key matches on the show.
(1) ORANGE CASSIDY vs. “SPEEDBALL” MIKE BAILEY vs. MARK DAVIS vs. RICOCHET – International Title Shot at Stake
Don Callis joined in on commentary. Taz talked about Davis being reluctant to trust Callis, saying to Callis that he’s “been sketchy for years.” After all four ring entrances, the bell rang 7 minutes into the hour. Bailey took it to Ricochet with rapid-fire kicks. Ricochet bailed out to ringside. Cassidy did his soft-kick routine and then put his hands on his pockets. Fans roared. Bailey put his hands behind his back and got in fighting stance. He threw some kicks, but Cassidy ducked and then dropkicked Bailey. They each kipped up. Ricochet tripped Cassidy from ringside and yanked him to the floor where he threw him into the ringside barricade. Bailey then head-scissored Ricochet at ringside and then roundkicked his chest before throwing him back into the ring.
Davis powerbombed Bailey on the ring apron, then slammed Cassidy on the ring apron. Ricochet took a shot at Davis, then begged off as Davis brushed it off. Bailey rolled up Davis for a two count. Davis came back with a suplex and then chopped Cassidy. Ricochet joined the commentators and watched as Davis continued to beat on Cassidy and Bailey. They cut to a double-box break at 6:00. [c/db]
Cassidy made a comeback after the break, which popped the crowd. Ricochet attacked a celebrating Cassidy. Ricochet and Cassidy countered each other. Cassidy landed a Stun Dog Millionaire, but clutched his arm afterward. Speedball went on the attack on Davis and then Cassidy. Cassidy rolled up Bailey for a two count. Bailey kicked Cassidy for a two count seconds later. Bailey landed a top rope shooting star press on Cassidy, but Davis yanked him out of the ring before he could score a pin.
Ricochet landed a running flip onto Davis at ringside, then landed a shooting star press on Cassidy for a near fall at 13:00. Bailey re-entered, but ate a kick and a clothesline from Ricochet. Cassidy gave Ricochet a DDT. Davis attacked Cassidy. Cassidy countered with an Orange Punch and rolled up Davis for a two count. After a rally by Davis, he landed a leaping piledriver on Cassidy. Bailey broke up the cover and then landed a backflip double kneedrop onto Davis. Bailey landed a spinning hook kick to the back of Davis’s head and went for a backslide. Ricochet leaned onto Davis, though, and the ref counted to three. Bailey thought he won. Ricochet thought he won. The ref looked confused and then explained to Justin Roberts his decision. Fans chanted, “Speedball!” Roberts announced that both Bailey and Ricochet will be challenging Kenny Omega at Dynasty for the International Title.
WINNER: Ricochet and Bailey in 18:00.
(Keller’s Analysis: That was a blast start to finish with a fun mix of styles. Davis really shined. Actually, everyone did, but Davis stood out as the brute-force guy battering the smaller, more athletic opponents. The finish was overly cute, and the ref easily could have just said Davis was eliminated and let the match continue. I don’t know if they’re actually going with a three-way at Dynasty, but it feels weird. Bailey’s had a good opening two weeks in AEW, but putting him in a match like this feels like they’re setting up him up to be the designated jobber. An Omega-Ricochet match is more appealing.) [c]
-A video aired on Hurt Syndicate.
(2) MERCEDES MONE vs. BILLIE STARKZ – TBS Title match
After Mercedes made her ring entrance, and during Starkz’s entrance, they aired a brief intro video on Starkz and her history in ROH. (It was an assortment of suplexes and her posing for the camera, but you wouldn’t gather any knowledge that distinguishes her personality from anyone else.) The bell rang 34 minutes into the hour. Schiavone said Starkz “has the chance to be the face of this network.” They cut to an early double-box break. [c/db]
They continued to battle back and forth after the break, including trading two counts. Starks buckle-bombed Mercedes into the top turnbuckle. At 12:00 she lifted Mercedes onto her shoulders and then tucked her head and crashed forward to the mat for a near fall. Mercedes’ boot was on the bottom rope so the ref stopped his count. The announcers gasped at the landing, although it seemed Mercedes tucked enough to land okay.
Starkz went for a senton on the ring apron, but Mercedes moved. Mercedes then applied a Statement Maker and got the tapout win. “What a freaking match,” said Schiavone. Mercedes held onto the finisher for a while after the bell before releasing and celebrating.
WINNER: Mercedes in 14:00 to retain the TBS Title.
-A video message aired with The Outrunners wishing luck to the Omaha Outrunners basketball team. A cheesy (intentionally) video played with footage of them with the players.
-Excalibur plugged that Collision would air both Saturday and Sunday after NCAA Tournament action. [c]
-A recap aired of Hurt Syndicate’s MVP making MJF an offer last week.
-MJF sat backstage and said a lot of fans are placing bets on who will become the next AEW World Champion. He said some think Darby, but he beat him twice “and he’s probably dead on a mountain somewhere.” He talked about beating Will Ospreay. Regarding Swerve Strickland, he said: “Well, look at me, I beat him in life.” He mentioned Hangman also, but said he’s the most complete wrestler on Earth. He stared at the card MVP gave him. He said the last time he trusted someone, he got burned pretty bad. He said as for MVP’s offer, he’ll have an answer next week. He said the time for daddy crying over spilled milk is over and the time for him to celebrate over a popped champagne bottle has just begun.
[HOUR TWO]
(3) JON MOXLEY vs. ADAM COPELAND – Street Fight for the AEW World Title
Justin Roberts introduced the match. They showed Moxley outside the arena on his way inside. Copeland chased him down and the match began with them fighting in the back at the top of the second hour. They brawled to ringside and then into the crowd. They eventually battled onto the announce desk. Mox bit Copeland’s forehead and then DDT’d him onto it. They cut to a double-box break at 8:00. [c/db]
Mox was using a chair to drive Copeland into the mat after the break. He gave the middle finger gesture to the crowd. When Mox climbed to the top rope, Copeland stood and threw the chair at Mox’s head. Mox teetered. Copeland then met Moxley on the top rope, raked his back with his fingernails, and then superplexed him back into the ring. Copeland landed three quick clotheslines and then faceplanted Mox.
Copeland brought the spiked board into the ring. Moxley gave him a cutter. He then grabbed a table and slid it into the ring. The ref moved the table slightly and made some odd mannerisms as if it was some sort of rules infraction. Copeland recovered and swung the board with nails into Mox’s abdomen and then his back. Copeland then suplexed Moxley onto it and it stuck into his back. Mox sat up and cried out in pain as it stuck into his back and he began to bleed. It stayed attached to him as he stood and walked around. Wheeler Yuta ran in and landed a Busaiku knee. He then tried to pull it out of Mox’s back, but it was stuck. Wheeler gave up and then the ref pulled it out. Yuta charged at Copeland at ringside, but Copeland powerbombed Yuta through the table set up at ringside.
Claudio charged in from the crowd and attacked Copeland. Pac joined in. They showed puncture wounds on Moxley’s back. Pac and Claudio took turns charging at Copeland in the corner. Then they put his face on a chair. Claudio brought a chair into the ring. FTR ran out to even the odds. Cash dove through the ropes and tackled Claudio, but ended up hitting his face on the announce desk. Dax gave Pac a DDT. Mox went after Dax, but Dax blocked him and landed a piledriver. Dax then clotheslined Pac over the top rope. Copeland speared Mox through a table leaning in the corner.
Copeland made a cover. Marina Shafir interrupted the pin. Willow Nightingale ran out and tackled Shafir. She leaped off the ring apron and flipped onto Shafir on the floor. Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian attacked Copeland. Mox made the cover, but Copeland kicked out at two. Mox applied a Bulldog headlock and the ref called for the bell as Copeland passed out. Schiavone said Moxley wasn’t the winner, he was the survivor.
WINNER: Moxley in 21:00 to retain the AEW World Title.
-Afterward, FTR stood over Copeland. Copeland reached for a helping hand. Dax refused and looked ticked off. He left the ring. Cash went to check on Dax, but Dax shoved him away and left. Cash then went back to check on Copeland. Willow helped Copeland stand and applauded his effort. When an exhausted Copeland finally left the ring, his music played. He hugged his spiked board and fist-bumped on his way to the back.
(Keller’s Analysis: The walk-n-brawl style match isn’t my favorite, but it feels novel when it’s not done too often. The spikes in Moxley’s back was gruesome looking and should leave some scars.)
-A clip aired of Chris Jericho attacking Gravity in front of his family during the PPV pre-show.
-Renee Paquette interviewed Bandido backstage. He said it was humiliating and he blamed Jericho for making his mother cry. He told him to show up Sunday at Collision and bring his brother’s mask with him. Johnny TV walked up and called him a sad puppy and diminished the importance of the mask. He challenged him to a match and said they’d get bigger ratings than the Super Bowl. Bandido agreed to it. Renee said “it’s official.”
-They went to the announcers on camera. Excalibur thanked the crew for setting them back set up at ringside after the chaos of the last match.
(4) WILL OSPREAY vs. A.R. FOX
The bell rang 33 minutes into the hour. They shook hands and exchanged some athletic moves early before they cut to a double-box break. [c/db]
They fought at ringside during the break. Ospreay was in control after the break. He landed a hook kick to Fox’s head. Fox came back with a faceplant and a running boot to the head. Ospreay avoided a 450 splash and then landed a quick Hidden Blade for the win.
WINNER: Ospreay in 8:00.
-A vignette aired on Swerve, Moxley’s next challenger.
-Renee asked “Hangman” Adam Page about his match being official now. Hangman said he is a man of his word and he will not let Swerve become AEW Champion again. Hangman talked about winning the The Owen Hart Cup Tournament and then winning the AEW World Title.
-Excalibur hyped Collision on Saturday featuring Daniel Garcia vs. Adam Cole for the TNT Title, Max Caster Open Challenge, and Queen Aminata vs. Julia Hart.
-A video previewed the Julia Hart-Aminata match.
-The announcers hyped Collision on Sunday which features Claudio & Yuta & Pac vs. Top Flight & A.R. Fox, Harley Cameron in action, Johnny TV vs. Bandido, and Dralistico & Beast Mortos vs. Komander & Hologram. Then they hyped Kenny Omega live on Dynamite next week. [c]
-Renee interviewed Mercedes backstage. Renee noted she has 16 successful title defenses. Mercedes said Starkz has a lot of heart and referred to her as “kid.” She asked who trained and mentored her, because she did a terrible job. She said if she had trained her, she’d already be a superstar. Taz said she’s so likable.
(5) MEGAN BAYNE (w/Penelope Ford) vs. KRIS STATLANDER
“Timeless” Toni Storm made her entrance and joined on commentary. As Bayne came out, a clip aired of Bayne battling Thunder Rosa on Collision last weekend which included Storm getting involved and eating a faceplant by Bayne. The bell rang 53 minutes into the hour. Storm joked that Schiavone had a “Hollywood ending” but had to pay $45 for it. They showed Luther standing behind Storm. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]
[OVERRUN]
The ref booted Ford to the back after she interfered. Storm said Excalibur looks like he’s had his sword pulled. Bayne dove through the ropes and tackled Statlander at ringside. Statlander landed a cannonball onto Bayne off the ring apron onto the floor. Bayne reversed Statlander into the lap of Storm at ringside. Fans booed. Bayne gave Statlander an F5 onto the floor and then threw Statlander back into the ring. She yelled at Storm, then returned to the ring and delivered a Face Descent for the win.
WINNER: Bayne in 14:00.
-After the match, Storm taped up her right hand and then went after Bayne in the ring with wild swings. Security ran in and pulled them apart. Storm tossed Bayne out of the ring. Then she grabbed a mic and said she’s “a big bitch” and that she’s always said the bigger they are, the harder the come. “It’s about time you and I get tantric,” she added. She said they have a date at Dynasty. “I’ll make your thighs shake and your body quake and I’ll leave with this strap on because I am ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm.” Taz said she has a way with words.
