SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
WWE has the “Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal,” but independent filmmakers have been given the biographical rights to a movie about Andre’s life and wrestling career.
Lion Forge Comics, Stone Village Productions, the authors of a new biography on Andre, and Andre’s daughter Robin Christensen-Roussimoff are collaborating on the movie project, reports Variety.
The feature film will bring to life the 2015 book “Andre the Giant: Closer to Heaven” that focuses on Andre’s journey from the family farm in France to headlining wrestling cards around the world, while battling gigantism.
“As a lifelong wrestling fan, I can say with conviction that no one was bigger than Andre,” said Lion Forge CEO David Steward II. “His presence and charisma were so powerful, and you could tell there was much more to him under the surface of his ring persona. It’s been an amazing experience telling that story in the book with Robin’s help. With all the spectacle, action, and emotion there on the page, a feature film just made perfect sense.”
Project details such as the filming schedule, release date, and method of releasing the movie will be released at a later time.
It won’t be easy to find someone to play Andre The Giant and I don’t see any type of CGI working for this. I am assuming they might have someone already who is close to Andre’s size.
