[HOUR ONE]

-They showed Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Marina Shafir walking backstage as Excalibur introduced the show. Then they showed Darby Allin skateboarding backstage. Tony Schiavone said, “It’s an explosive night.”

(1) ORANGE CASSIDY (w/Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe) vs. CHRIS JERICHO (w/Big Bill, Bryan Keith)

As Cassidy made his way to the ring, Excalibur sent best wishes to Justin Roberts who wasn’t ring announcing. He didn’t elaborate. The bell rang 3 minutes into the show. The wrestlers at ringside stood on the ring apron and then all entered the ring after the bell rang. A three-on-three brawl broke out. Jericho and Cassidy quickly were alone in the ring fighting. Cassidy flip dove onto Bill and Keith at ringside. Briscoe then flipped onto them at ringside. Jericho teased a dive, then stopped and waved. Cassidy caught Jericho with an Orange Punch for a near fall at 1:30. Fans chanted “Freshly squeezed!” Jericho rolled to ringside. Cassidy leaped through the ropes and knocked Jericho into the barricade. Excalibur hyped scheduled matches. Jericho took over at ringside.

Jericho applied a Walls of Jericho. Cassidy turned it into a small package for a two count. Jericho caught Cassidy diving at him in a move that looked a bit off, but he powered him over and slammed him for a two count. Jericho took control at ringside. He grabbed a camera and filmed Cassidy down at ringside. He threw him back into the ring and leaped off the top rope. He waved at fans first, then hit Cassidy with a double axe handle.

A couple minutes later, Cassidy backdropped a charging Jericho over the top rope to the floor. Jericho catapulted Cassidy into the ringside barricade. Jericho back suplexed Cassidy off the ringside barricade through a table. Fans chanted, “Holy shit!” They cut to a double-box break at 11:00 as both wrestlers were down. [c/db]

Back from the break, they were battling mid-ring and they knocked each other down. Both were slow to get up. Jericho hit a charging Cassidy with a clothesline and scored a two count. Cassidy head-butted Jericho as he set up a move in the corner. Jericho came right back with another Walls of Jericho. Cassidy crawled to the bottom rope to force a break. Big Bill kicked Cassidy as the ref’s back was turned. Jericho scored a two count. O’Reilly went after Bill at ringside. Jericho gave Cassidy a Death Valley Driver for a two count at 17:00.

Jericho sl0w-kicked Cassidy a few times and then got more intense. Cassidy surprised Jericho with a sudden DDT. Cassidy climbed to the top rope and landed a diving DDT for a near fall. Cassidy charged with an Orange Punch attempt, but Jericho countered with a Code Breaker for a two count. Fans chanted “This is awesome!” Cassidy ducked a Judas Effect and landed a Beach Break for a two count. Keith stood on the ring apron. Briscoe fought him on the ring apron. Jericho was going to hit Cassidy with a roll of quarters, but Cassidy blocked them and used the roll to land an Orange Punch and score the three count.

WINNER: Cassidy in 19:00.

(Keller’s Analysis: Hard work from both wrestlers. It was sluggish at times and not overly crisp, but it added up to a solid match overall.)

-A promo aired with Pac and Claudio backstage after Dynamite went off the air last Wednesday. They called out Private Party. Claudio said he thought the caught Wheeler Yuta better. He told him to show next week help them defend the Trios Titles. Jon Moxley walked in and said he thinks Yuta has the strength inside him to do the right thing. He said Yuta has a personal responsibility for the greatest good. He said he should be the type of man they taught him to be. They played ominous music in the background.

-A clip aired of Wheeler Yuta winning on Collision on Saturday, but as Excalibur noted, his head wasn’t completely in the game.

-Alex Marvez interviewed Yuta as he was leaving the arena. Yuta said he’s pretty conflicted based on recent events. He said he worked his whole career to be a champion so he wants to defend at WrestleDream. Marvez said it’s Grand Slam, not WrestleDream, playing into Yuta been distracted lately. A worker came in and said he left his belt in his locker room. Yuta said his head has been all over the place. He said he has learned from Bryan Danielson that you don’t change who you are because people around you are changing. He said if those guys want to defend the Trios Titles at Grand Slam, then he’ll “take whoever’s ass I have to.”

-They went to Excalibur, Schiavone, and Taz reacting to Yuta decision. Schiavone said Yuta’s mind needs to be clear. Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, and Mike Bennett joined the commentators.

(2) HOOK vs. J.D. INK

Hook made his ring entrance. Strong yelled toward Hook as he walked out, but Hook ignored him. Ink was covered in tattoos head to toe, so he has the right last name. The bell rang 29 minutes into the hour. Hook clotheslined Ink at the bell, then landed three suplexes. He paraded around the ring with his arms extended. They went to an overhead shot of Hook landing forearms to Ink’s neck and head, then he applied Red Rum for the quick tapout win.

WINNER: Hook in 1:00.

-As Hook returned to the stage, he looked over at Strong and yelled back at him.

-Marvez interviewed Private Party, Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen, and they accepted the open challenge issued by Claudio & Pac for a title match. [c]

-Renee interviewed Christian, Nick Wayne, Mother Wayne, and Killswitch backstage. Christian said Nick is wrestling this Friday in a four-way match with Rocky Romero, Lio Rush, and Kip Sabian. He said it the launching pad to his road to glory. He mentioned to Renee that her husband, Moxley, wants to be AEW Champion too. He said that’s awkward, but he insisted she refer to him by his proper moniker. She called him the “reigning, defending, undisputed next AEW World Champion.” Christian noticed Sabian watching off to the side and walked over to confront him. He took issue with him showing up. He said he doesn’t care if his father is dead. He said if he sees him again, he’ll put him in the dirt right next to his father.

RECOMMENDED: AEW’s next TV deal with WBD could bring big changes to fans, new reporting indicates some parameters but much still unknown

(3) SERENA DEEB & MARIAH MAY vs. YUKA SAKAZAKI & QUEEN AMINATA

Clips aired during ring entrances of the prior angles with these four. The bell rang 40 minutes into the hour. Sakazaki and Deeb had some nice exchanges early. Mariah stood at ringside and posed for the camera. Deeb had no one to tag as a result. She made her back to the ring apron. Deeb rallied and tagged in Mariah at 2:00. They cut to a double-box break at 2:30. [c/db]

Sakazaki gave Deeb an airplane spin into a face plant. Sakazaki then springboard leaped onto both opponents and her partner at ringside. Back in the ring, Sakazaki landed a springboard splash on Deeb. May interfered with her belt, so the ref DQ’d her and Deeb. May laughed.

WINNERS: Aminata & Sakazaki via DQ in 8:00.

-May attacked Sakazaki afterward. Schiavone said he hoped there will be fines levied.

-A vignette aired with Mina Shirakawa saying she’s been watching Mariah and she doesn’t know what she’s become. She said she misses her because they had so many good times together. She said she is coming for her and then shook her breasts and winked. [c]

-They went to the announcers at the desk as they hyped Grand Slam including Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness, noting it’s contingent on Danielson being cleared by then. Schiavone said there’s no guarantee Danielson can show up and he wanted fans to know that. Taz wondered what condition he’ll be in even if he is cleared. Excalibur threw to a video with Nigel discussing his history with Danielson.

-The video started and froze. Excalibur said they were having issues with the video and began talking about their past, but then they got the video ready to roll. The video showed vintage ROH clips as ROH alum Mark Briscoe, Roderick Strong, and Jerry Lynn talked about their past and how they helped put ROH on the map. Nigel said he can’t get revenge for all of his lost years, but he can get redemption by beating Bryan Danielson.

-Excalibur said Nigel has been consumed by Danielson and they will wrestle next week if Danielson is cleared. [c]

-Moxley, Claudio, and Shafir made their way to the ring through the crowd. Schiavone said Mox has returned with a purpose, but he’s not sure what the purpose is. He said he might want a World Title, but he might want more. Private Party jumped Mox and Claudio.

[HOUR TWO]

Claudio gave Marc Quen two backbreakers. Shafir stomped away on Isaiah at ringside. Schiavone it was a brave attack by Private Party, but ill-advised. He said they’re going to be made an example of now. Kommander showed up in the ring and dove at Claudio, but Claudio hit him mid-air with a European uppercut. Sharif knocked Alex Abrahantes down. Moxley said on a mic that he could end Private Party’s careers for what they did, but he won’t do that. He said they were in AEW from the start, but after five years, they’re in the same spot. He said he’s going to give them some friction. “Consider this a gift,” he said. He then hit Isaiah hand with a hammer. Fans chanted, “You sick f—!” (No bleeping by TBS here.) Darby charged out and hit Mox with his skateboard. Mox threw Darby into the ring.

Mox and Darby circled each other. Darby swung his skateboard at Mox. Mox rolled out of the ring. Darby asked Mox when he’ll realize he isn’t the same guy he was five years ago. He said he’s going to become the next AEW World Champion. Darby’s music played.

-A vignette aired with Jack Perry showing him driving around in his “Scapegoat” shuttle bus and then clips of his win over Christopher Daniels on Collision and saying it’s his time and the future is his.

(4) RICOCHET vs. THE BEAST MORTOS

The bell rang 8 minutes into the hour. Ricochet landed a dive through the ropes into Mortos at ringside. He landed a flying clothesline and standing shooting star press for a two count at 1:30. Mortos matched Ricochet’s athleticism early in some nice sequences. Fans stood and applauded. Ricochet kicked Mortos off the ring apron and then flipped over the top rope. Mortos caught him and slammed him back-first into the ring apron. They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]

They just kept hitting athletic spots including another dive at ringside by Ricochet. Mortos caught Ricochet but Richocet rolled through and sunset-bombed him at ringside. Ricochet landed a springboard 450 for a near fall. Mortos knocked Ricochet off balance on the top rope at 10:00. He press-slammed Ricochet off the top rope for a two count. Fans chanted “AEW!” Ricochet came back with a crucifix bomb and then an axe kick followed by his sitout powerbomb, Vertigo, for the win.

WINNER: Ricochet in 12:00.

(Keller’s Analysis: If Ricochet was signed to help elevate Mortos in the eyes of fans as a wrestler who can compete athletically with Ricochet, mission accomplished! That was a really fun match. I don’t think Mortos has been established well enough as a main event wrestler where it doesn’t feel like a step back for Ricochet that it took him 12 minutes to beat him. This was a case of AEW seeing a good match on paper and deciding to book it for that reason.)

-A brief vignette aired on “Hangman” Page.

-Excalibur said Hangman will speak next. [c]

-Excalibur hyped a ten-man tag match on Collision featuring Hook & FTR & The Outrunners vs. Rush & The Grizzled Young Vets & Mortos & Roderick Strong.

-Schiavone stood mid-ring and introduced Hangman. Excalibur said he wouldn’t want to be alone in a ring with Hangman at this time. Taz said he saw him backstage earlier “and you can see in his eyes he’s just not right.” Schiavone told Hangman he got a win over Swerve at All Out in one of the most violent matches ever. He said he then gave a warning to anyone who supported Swerve or said good things about him. He asked what he was talking about. Hangman said he appears to be surrounded by people who would cheer for Swerve when he was “locked inside a cage with his fate.” He said when he was at home suspended for four months, he heard a voice above the rest from the commentary desk cheering on Swerve. He turned to Schiavone, who looked worried as Hangman backed him into the corner. Jeff Jarrett then ran out and went after Hangman, but Hangman jumped him as soon as he slid into the ring. Hangman tossed Jarrett around ringside.

Security entered and pulled Hangman down from the ring apron as he set up a Buckshot Lariat. Satnum Singh, Jay Lethal, and Karen Jarrett came out to stand by Jarrett. Jarrett said he won’t let Hangman put one finger on Schiavone. He said there’s an entire dressing room that wants to tear the hell out of him, but he is at the front of the line. He referred to himself as “The Last Outlaw.” He promised Hangman that, if it’s the last thing he does in his career, he will kick his ass.

(Keller’s Analysis: That last line worked and he didn’t even vow to kill him. Imagine that!)

-Renee interviewed Ricochet in the back. Will Ospreay interrupted right away and offered a handshake. Ricochet said he has been thinking a lot about what he told him about getting his wins up. Ricochet said from the moment he stepped foot in AEW, everyone wants to prove they’re better than him. He said it seems everyone is more worried about him than Ospreay. He said he hasn’t seen anyone calling out Ospreay. He said he knows he’s trying to reunite the United Empire next week, but he hopes the following week that he’s not too busy. He said on Oct. 2 on the 5th Anniversary of Dynamite, he’s got a match against him for his International Title. He said they have had matches that changed the landscape of pro wrestling, and in recent years Ospreay has risen to another level, but he’s still Ricochet and he’s still out of this world. He said he’ll see him soon and closed by calling him, “Little bro.” Taz said, “That is massive.” [c]

(5) THE YOUNG BUCKS (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) & KAZUCHIKA OKADA vs. KONOSUKE TAKESHITA & KYLE FLETCHER & WILL OSPREAY

Callis joined the announcers on commentary. The bell rang 44 minutes into the hour. A minute in, after a flurry by Ospreay, Okada tagged in. They stared at each other. Excalibur called it a moment and briefly referenced their time on top of New Japan. Takeshita chopped Ospreay to tag in. Ospreay shot him a look. A six-way brawl broke out. The Bucks and Okada landed slingshot flip sentons onto all three opponents, then struck poses. Ospreay, Takeshita, and Fletcher regrouped and slingshot themselves onto the three posing heels at ringside. Takeshita and Ospreay shared a tense look.  They cut to a double-box break at 3:00. [c/db]

Matt was on the attack against Fletcher after the break. They made note of Takeshita and Okada not knowing each other well at all, but Takeshita wanting Okada’s title. They cut to a double-box break at 11:00 with Okada in control against Takeshita. [c/db]

Nicholas tagged in during the break and punched away at Takeshita. Chaos broke out briefly after the break. Matthew and Nicholas landed Risky Business. Okada landed a top rope elbow and decided not to cover Takeshita. The Bucks and Okada struck a pose and gave the hard cam middle fingers. Callis said he’d rather see that than a triple team. Takeshita recovered and made a comeback. He German suplexed both Bucks.

[OVERRUN]

Ospreay got the hot-tag and landed a standing skytwister press on Matthew for a near fall. Ospreay set up a cutter, but Okada blocked it. The Bucks gave Ospreay stereo superkicks. Matthew then delivered a sitout powerbomb. Fletcher broke up the cover. The Bucks continued the beating on Ospreay with everyone else knocked to ringside. They set up an EVP Trigger. Fletcher came in and disrupted those plans. Ospreay then jackknife pinned Matthew after a spinebuster by Fletcher. Fletcher legally tagged in and went after Matthew. Nicholas entered and gave Fletcher a running knee.

Ospreay and Fletcher fended off Nicholas and then attacked Matthew. Okada entered and knocked Fletcher down. Takeshita gave Okada a Blue Thunder Bomb to block Ospreay. He then landed a running flip dive onto Okada at ringside. Nicholas gave Fletcher a face-buster. The Bucks then set up the TK Driver, but Fletcher came back with a twisting tombstone on Matthew. Nicholas broke up the cover at two. Ospreay then gave Nicholas a Hidden Blade. Ospreay and Fletcher then finished Matthew with Coriolis, with Fletcher getting the three count.

WINNERS: Ospreay & Fletcher & Takeshita in 21:00.

-Callis entered and shook Ospreay’s hand afterward. Ospreay offered a handshake to Takeshita, but Takeshita pushed him aside. Callis tried to keep things calm. Fletcher watched from the side.

(Keller’s Analysis: Good match with a ton of high-impact action that was well executed.)
