Collectibles News Brief – New Upper Deck Hockey Cards Include C.M. Punk and Bret Hart
Bret Hart and C.M. Punk are multi-time world champions, respected ring generals, and big-time hockey fans. And now both wrestling stars have been included in a new hockey trading card product from Upper Deck.
Hart and Punk are featured in the High Profile Fans insert set in 2015-16 Upper Deck Contours Hockey, which was just released on April 20. For these cards, Upper Deck acquired hockey jerseys worn by Hart (Calgary Flames) and Punk (Chicago Blackhawks), cut them up, and inserted pieces into the cards.
There are several versions of these cards to collect. Basic jersey cards feature a one-color piece of jersey and are not serial numbered. Patch versions are thicker and include multi-color pieces from the jersey, such as logos, numbers and nameplates, and are serial numbered to 65.
Autograph jerseys include a jumbo piece and a signature and are serial numbered to 149 (Hart) and 199 (Punk). Autograph patch cards are numbered to just 25 and incorporate a jumbo patch piece.
The High Profile Fans insert set also includes cards of director Kevin Smith, long-time CNN personality Larry King, actor Jason Priestley, actress Rachel Nichols, and race car driver Kevin Harvick. So far, Punk and Hart are consistently outselling all of the others.
Bret’s basic jersey cards have been selling in the $15-30 range, and Punk’s have been selling for about the same. Very few of the patch cards have sold of either wrestler, so it’s tough to pinpoint a price.
The autograph jersey cards have been the hottest so far, with most of Bret’s selling for around $100 and Punk’s fluctuating wildly between $100 and $200. None of the autograph patch cards of either man have been listed on eBay so far, but with just 25 copies and jumbo prime swatches, they’re bound to sell high.
