C.M. Punk vs. Dustin Rhodes has been made official for Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite.

On this week’s episode of AEW Rampage, Rhodes cut a backstage promo and challenged Punk to the match. Rhodes talked about taking Lance Archer out of the top five in the championship rankings and then turned his attention to Punk. Rhodes then called Punk out, saying their clash was a dream match. Later in the show, the Rampage announced team revealed that Tony Khan made the bout official.

Last week on AEW Dynamite, Punk defeated Penta after making a social media request for someone to wrestle him. He sits atop the AEW World Championship rankings and is in line for a title match. For most of 2022, Punk has ben embroiled in a feud with MJF. He defeated MJF in a Dog Collar match at AEW Revolution. After that match, he celebrated with the audience and called for the championship with hand motions to the waist. If he secures a championship match, it will be his first since joining AEW in August of last year. Punk is a former world champion in WWE. He’s also a former Ring of Honor World Champion.

Other matches on Dynamite include Jungle Boy vs. Kyle O’Reilly in a men’s Owen Hart Tournament qualifying match, Britt Baker vs. Danielle Kamela in a women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament qualifier, Darby Allin vs. Andrade El Idolo in a Casket Match, the Dynamite debut of Hook, and a major announcement from Tony Khan.
