SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
This week’s episode of NXT 2.0 has wrapped. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and relive some of the madness.
-Pete Dunne pulled a really good match out of Tony D’Angelo. The victory and showdown later with Carmelo Hayes means he’s in line for a North American Championship match. Dunne still appears to be a player in the new NXT, but as enhancement talent and someone the young guys can work with.
-Not a great women’s tag team title match, but serviceable. Toxic Attraction still needs some depth in order to be as effective and impactful as possible.
-I wouldn’t say that the Cora Jade and Raquel Gonzalez recorded segment made the most sense conceptually, but it painted a good picture of both of them together as a team. They played well off each other too.
-Grayson Waller trying to arrest LA Knight felt like a prototypical WWE style segment. Waller looked like a jerk and Knight played off that well to get to the match next week. Not a hot angle, but an effective one.
-Really good match between Hayes and Cameron Grimes. Hayes continued to show he’s the most polished performer of the new NXT 2.0 crop and Grimes was a perfect dance partner.
-This year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was home to a lot of good tag matches and the finals between MSK and The Creed Brothers kept to that trend. Both teams worked really well together and the outcome was exciting spots and drama. The Creed Brothers are a very good team. If main roster WWE valued tag teams, they sky would be the limit for them.
-Sign me up for Solo Sikoa vs. Gunther. Right away. That match has “stiff” written all over it and is a smart next step for Sikoa’s development.
-Another specialty entrance for Bron Breakker? Breakker is going to be a player in WWE, but there were some boos for him in the audience. It’s not WWE’s MO, but pulling back on the optics of Breakker’s push will help him get over stronger in the long run. They need to balancing positioning him as the guy and forcing him on fans as the guy.
-Breakker vs. Santos Escobar was a good match and good first title defense for Breakker. Breakker vs. Ziggler is up next.
