After the dust settles from New Japan’s series of shows with Ring of Honor this month, the focus will shift to the 2016 New Japan Cup.
The 16-man, single-elimination tournament is set to begin on March 3 in Tokyo. The quarter-final matches will be March 4 before the semi-finals and finals take place on March 12.
The winner of the tournament will receive a singles title shot of his choosing on April 10, so not included in the NJPW Cup are IWGP World Hvt. champion Kazuchika Okada, IWGP IC champion Kenny Omega, and NEVER Openweight champion Shibata. The
Michael Elgin is in the tournament representing ROH. Bullet Club is also represented. The full list of First Round matches taking place on March 3 in Tokyo include:
– Toru Yano vs. Yujiro Takahashi (Bullet Club)
– Michael Elgin vs. Tenzan
– Togi Makabe vs. Tama Tonga (Bullet Club)
– Honma vs. Kojima
– Yuji Nagata vs. Hirooki Goto
