SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

Former NEVER Openweight champion Tomohiro Ishii is the new ROH TV champion.

Ishii captured the ROH TV Title from Roderick Strong in the main event of “Honor Rising Night 1” Friday night in Tokyo, Japan.

Ishii defeated Strong clean with a brainbuster after absorbing a combination “Death by Roderick” gutbuster and Sick Kick from Strong.

Strong and Ishii are scheduled to meet again on Night 2 of “Honor Rising” on Saturday night. This time it will be a six-man tag match of Tanahashi, Michael Elgin, and Strong against Ishii, IWGP World Hvt. champion Kazuchika Okada, and YOSHI-HASHI.

The title change makes for an interesting situation, as Strong was scheduled to defend the TV Title against Bobby Fish at next Friday’s 14th Anniversary PPV in Las Vegas.

Ishii is on the U.S. tour representing New Japan, and is scheduled to face Hirooki Goto in a singles match on the 14th Anniversary PPV.

It remains to be seen how the TV Title situation shakes out next weekend.

Update: ROH is playing up a meeting with New Japan officials on Sunday to decide how the title change will affect the Las Vegas PPV line-up. (ROH’s Update)
