Thunder Rosa won the AEW Women’s World Championship from Britt Baker at the St. Patrick’s Day Slam episode of AEW Dynamite. The match took place in San Antonio, Texas inside of a steel cage. Baker and Rosa met at the AEW Revolution event a week prior, but Baker retained her title that night after countless moments of interference from Jaime Hayter and Rebel.
Britt Baker had been champion since Double or Nothing last May. Baker defeated Hikaru Shida for the title. Shida had held the belt throughout the pandemic and defeated Nyla Rose to claim it.
Battle of the Belts is a signature AEW event on their calendar. The quarterly show was added to their programming when they extended their television deal with Turner. The first Battle of the Belts featured Baker defending the women’s world title against the first ever AEW Women’s World Champion, Riho. In addition, Sammy Guevara faced Dustin Rhodes for the Interim AEW World Championship. Baker and Guevara won their matches.
Currently, Thunder Rosa vs. Nyla Rose is the only match scheduled for Battle of the Belts 2. AEW will tape the show on April 15 before it airs on TNT on April 16.
