SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
WWE LIVE EVENT REPORT
MARCH 4, 2019
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. AT WESTCHESTER COUNTY CENTER
REPORT BY MIKE OMANSKY, PWTORCH CORRESPONDENT
Est. crowd: 4,900 (a handful short of a sell-out)
Return date: None announced
N0-shows: Charlotte, Becky Lynch. Both were advertised through last week.
(1) The Usos defeated The Bar to retain the Smackdown Tag Team Titles. Usos won after a stereo superkick on Cesaro. Fast-paced opening. The Bar, as heels, dominated. The Usos rebounded for the finish.
(2) Nikki Cross defeated Peyton Royce (w/Billie Kaye) on a reverse roll-up for a pin. Not good.
The IIconics protested afterward and didn’t want to leave. Naomi danced out.
(3) Naomi pinned Billie Kaye in under ten seconds. She threw her down and pinned her.
(4) Jeff Hardy & The Miz & Mustafa Ali defeated Samoa Joe & Shinsuke Nakaura & Rusev. Excellent six-man tag match. In the end, Miz gave Samoa Joe the Skull Crushing Finale, then tagged in Ali who dove off the top rope for the pin. The match started with Miz comedy, then solid action followed. Frequent tags by the heels.
(5) R-Truth (w/Carmella) beat Andrade (w/Zelina Vega) to retain the U.S. Title. In the end, Andrade was watching Carmella take out Vega on the outside. Truth then rolled him up from behind for the win. Fair match.
(6) Asuka vs. Mandy Rose was ruled a no contest when Asuka couldn’t continue. The match was stopped after it looked like Asuka landed the wrong way on her head or neck on the mat. The ref gave the legit injury signal, and a load of WWE officials came out. Asuka was helped to the back. She posted on Twitter later that she was fine.
(7) A.J. Styles beat Daniel Bryan (w/Erick Rowan) via DQ so Bryan retained the title. Styles caught Bryan in the Calf Crusher, at which point Rowan charged into the ring before Bryan could tap. The ref called for the DQ. The match was first rate as you would expect between these two. Great give and take. Rowan interfered multiple times when the ref was distracted by Bryan. Best match of the night.
