SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

The following is the latest in a new series of weekly in-depth articles exclusive to PWTorch which will help put in perspective major wrestling promotions with a weekly overview, looking at news and roster developments, results, future line-ups, social media activity, key interviews, plus a timely commentary at the end. We will be featuring similar features on other promotions each week and each will be updated weekly.

•Top Stories of the Week

-Sean Radican of PWTorch.com is reporting that that All Elite Wrestling, LLC trademarks have been filed as of Nov. 5 of this year with the address of the trademarks being linked back to TIAA Bank Field, home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. Trademarks filed include AEW, AEW All Out, All Elite Wrestling, Tuesday Night Dynamite and AEW Double or Nothing. With that being said, further research shows AWEWrestling.com and AllEliteWrestling.com were purchased on Oct. 23 of this year. Stay tuned!

-What a week for Jim Ross. He goes from calling his last matches for NJPW on AXS TV to looking like he got on the wrongside of the Bullet Club OGs on his way out of town as he suffered a concussion and two black eyes this past week. While he currently appears to be on the mend, check out the “Social Media Scene” further down this page to see just how bad his injuries were.

-Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that the WWE is looking to expand their Performance Centers globally and Japan is on that list. While NJPW is unlikely to be on board, it will be interesting to see if the WWE signs a deal with any of the other promotions in Japan.

-NJPW annnounced this week that Hirooki Goto will defend the NEVER Openweight Championship against Kota Ibushi in the World Tag League 2018 finals taking place on Dec. 9 in Iwate, Japan. After weeks of turning down Goto’s challenge, Ibushi finally accepted on Night 2 of NJPW World Tag League 2018 on Nov. 18 at Korakuen Hall.

-Various websites are reporting that Super Jr. Tag League 2018 competitor and current Ring of Honor star ACH is being scouted for the next round of WWE Performance Center signings set to launch in January 2019. While Ring of Honor attempted to sign him to a new deal, nothing developed between the two sides.

-Wrestle Kingdom 13 is set to stream live on NJPW World on Jan. 4, 2019 and for the first time ever, the biggest matches from WK13 will air later in the day on AXS TV featuring commentary from Kevin Kelly and Don Callis.

•Closing Commentary

What a difference a day makes.

While I was set to write about the influence of Chris Jericho on NJPW and it’s pending, parting roster, the buzz surrounding All Elite Wrestling cannot be ignored.

Weeks ago, I wrote about the rumours of Chris Jericho, Jim Ross, the ELITE, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan and AXS TV being involved in a brand new wrestling promotion. Now it looks like those rumours aren’t just rumours. While it’s still speculation based on the fact that no names were linked to the registering of the All Elite Wrestling, LLC trademarks, the writing is on the wall. Cody’s last date with ROH is coming up next month. His final date with NJPW in January 2019. “Hangman” Page turning down contracts. SCU turning down contracts. Omega’s contract set to expire in January 2019.

While the trademarks and the websites have been put into motion, let’s look at the realism of it all. WWE is set to move SmackDown to Fox and Friday nights in late 2019 and we have a Tuesday night audience losing out on their entertainment that night of the week. Enter “Tuesday Night Dynamite” capitalizing on the void left by the WWE while not only maintaining the Tuesday night audience, but by exposing that same Tuesday night audience to this new form of Sports Ent…. WRESTLING!

That’s right, wrestling.

While the ELITE are seemingly sticking their noses up to Vince McMahon and the WWE, Sinclair Broadcast Group and ROH and Harold Meij and NJPW, that’s simply not the case. If they needed the money and the exposure, they would sign with the WWE. If they wanted to remain loyal and continue to have creative bosses to answer to, they would re-sign with ROH and NJPW. But they’re not doing that. They’re simply chasing their dreams as a cohesive unit. Giving fans what they want to see in a match, a t-shirt and now a storyline. They’re looking to change the world… the world of PRO-WRESTLING.

What NJPW does about the news isn’t a mystery and hasn’t been in some time. Their current list of champions and who’s challenging at Wrestle Kingdom 13 shows that New Japan Pro-Wrestling is ready for the farewell of Omega, Cody, Page, Jericho and the Bucks. While Omega may retain against Tanahashi at WK13 just to create a buzz, it won’t matter when it comes to the title defenses of Chris Jericho and Cody. Look for new Intercontinental and United States Champions to be crowned while “Switchblade” Jay White the Bullet Club OGs do the honourable thing at the end of the month and oust Omega from NJPW “Bullet Club style”.

With that being said…
