SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...

The following is the latest in a new series of weekly in-depth articles exclusive to PWTorch which will help put in perspective major wrestling promotions with a weekly overview, looking at news and roster developments, results, future line-ups, social media activity, key interviews, plus a timely commentary at the end. We will be featuring similar features on other promotions each week and each will be updated weekly.

•Top Stories of the Week

  • Tommaso Ciampa defeated Velveteen Dream in an unbelievable showcase Saturday night to retain the NXT Championship.  Where does the title scene shift from here?  Will Black demand his rematch?  Will Velveteen Dream continue his championship pursuit?  Will Johnny Gargano continue his treacherous ways?  I’m guessing all three might get their opportunity.
  • NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler retained her championship by defeating Kairi Sane in a 2 out of 3 falls match at WarGames.  Despite receiving backup from Dakota Kai and Io Shirai to offset the interference from Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Dukes, Sane fell short again in an attempt to regain the title.  Where the title picture goes from here is anyone’s guess.
  • War Raiders, Pete Dunne, and Ricochet defeated the Undisputed Era in the main event Saturday night in an absolute slobber knocker.  All eight men came out of the match looking strong and the next couple of months should be fantastic with everyone chasing gold.  The War Raiders should be next in line for the tag titles and I’m guessing Adam Cole will join a few other NXT superstars chasing Ricochet’s North American Title.

•NXT Live Event Results:

  • No Live Results this week except for the TV Tapings from San Jose, California and I don’t do spoilers.

•NXT in the Media

  • The Undisputed Era sat down with Sam Roberts in the NotSam Wrestling Podcast to discuss a plethora of topics including the moment he thought Undisputed Era really took the next step.I can speak for this too. With the three of us, it was a great unit, but to say Roderick was a perfect fit, I mean like the group took off to me when he joined. That’s when stuff started getting crazy and more and more people started buying t-shirts and the main events and… it was a perfect fit.” Check out the interview HERE.
  • This article was written a few months back but it was so powerful I feel like it needed attention.  Just an amazing story of a domestic abuse survivor accomplishing her dreams.  Great stuff. Check out the article HERE.

•Top NXT Tweets of the Week:

Ciampa Tweet of the week and he’s not wrong…..

https://twitter.com/ProjectCiampa/status/1064584733043105792

Johnny TakeOver loses again…..but at least he’s going to Disneyland….

Coming soon to a Monday/Tuesday night near you…

This feud is going to be absolute fire whenever it happens.…as long as the main roster doesn’t main roster it up too bad…

•Thoughts and Comments:

  • Aleister Black and Johnny Gargano was match of the night for me.  Gargano is the best in ring story teller WWE has on the roster.
  • The WarGames main event was awesome, but the wrong team went over.  The Undisputed Era has been booked as a dominant faction, and dominant factions who also hold the tag team titles shouldn’t lose in a match like that.
  • Sweet, sweet vindication.  For weeks upon weeks I’ve expressed the absolute need to find room on the WarGames card for the King of Bros.  Thank you, WWE.   Matt Riddle is going to be an NXT Champion in 2019.
  • So Lars Sullivan is getting the call up?  Okay.  Wouldn’t be one of my top ten choices from the NXT roster, but of course Vince is a huge fan.  I’m sorry; I just don’t see it.
  • Last, but certainly not least…  The Velveteen Dream is everything that is right about professional wrestling.  He’s just pure entertainment the second he walks out from the curtain.
