SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
Well this isn’t going to be easy.
I’m Tom Colohue and this is the Monday Night Reigns-o-Meter.
Roman Reigns is currently on hiatus from the WWE with the blessing of Vince McMahon and Triple H while he faces an incredibly difficult ongoing battle with a recurrence of leukemia.
The Big Dog came to the ring last night in his street clothes and bared his soul with class and dignity. He apologized to the fans, he pulled back the curtain, and he relinquished the Universal Championship, which he has spent the better part of a year and a half chasing. He pledged to fight this battle with the same ferocity and tenacity that he has always displayed.
Through it all, even knowing that his body is literally attacking him, Roman Reigns has kept his faith. He signed off by expressing his love for an audience that has historically booed him and that audience reacted with an outpouring of love so intense that it may well have broken the Roman Reigns curse forever.
Seth Rollins, weeping openly without shame or fear, was all of us in that moment.
So Roman Reigns, our hero, our Samoan destroyer, and our favorite Samoan named Joe, has left WWE, hopefully temporarily, to fight his battle. The odds that he faces now aren’t in the shape of your Brock Lesnars or your Braun Strowmans, they’re something else entirely. From the bottom of my heart, I wish him all the strength in the world. Anyone who reads these pages will know that for all the jokes, the mockery, and the parody I am a genuine fan of Roman Reigns.
I got a Roman Reigns birthday card this year, which I will be putting up on my mantelpiece until his eventual return. I had a good laugh at that, but suddenly things have become a little more serious. I can not wait to see him return.
So what next for the Roman Reigns-o-Meter? Well, Roman Reigns isn’t here to be Reignsometered. Do I betray him by throwing over to a Seth-o-Meter or a Strow-mo-meter? A Drew McInm-o-Meter? Do I maintain a Roman Reigns-o-Meter but just supply weekly updates on Roman’s progress as things develop? Here’s an unfortunate secret for you: I don’t actually know Roman so I’m going to have nothing to update anyone with. I’ll have to take a little time to think about what comes next. Keep your eyes peeled for the next steps for Tom Colohue.
That said, if Roman Reigns marches down to the ring several months from now to the enraptured reception that he thoroughly deserves, expect to see the Roman Reigns-o-Meter returning with him.
Good luck, Joe. I am behind you all the way.
Very hard to watch. Love him or hate him, he deserves our support in this battle. #ThankYouRoman
