SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
HITS
Truth TV: Smackdown kicked off inside the ring with R Truth and Carmella mocking Miz TV with their own ‘TV’ show. Their first guest was Daniel Bryan. Truth, as with any air time, was tremendous. Truth is easily one of the most underutilized wrestlers the last decade. His interview style with Bryan was funny and well done and didn’t look heavily scripted. Miz interrupted the interview by saying it’s his show and then began ripping into Bryan. Miz told Bryan he doesn’t have what it takes to become champion again because he won’t do what it takes to win. He won’t break his moral code. He won’t bend the rules. He won’t go against his fans. Miz said Bryan will not defeat him at Super Show-Down because Miz will do whatever it takes to win.
Miz vs. Truth: Good match. Truth and Miz seem to have decent chemistry with each other. It was a good opening match with Miz getting the win with Bryan’s signature running knee. Good heat.
Sheamus vs. Big E: Great one-on-one matchup between these two beasts. Power moves and technical skills were on display here. Solid back and forth and the crowd was into it. Sheamus won with a Brogue kick to Big E’s face. This match definitely elevated the heat between New Day and The Bar. This tag team matchup will definitely steal whatever show they’re wrestling on.
Tye Dillinger vs. Shinsuke Nakamura: Dillinger was showing solid offense throughout until Randy Orton interrupted the match and beat the holy heck out of Dillinger. Orton dropped Dillinger on the outside with a ferocious DDT off the apron. Nakamura added insult the injury with his running knee driving Dillinger into the ring wall. Gruesome attack.
Becky Lynch vs. Lana: I was impressed with Lana and her wrestling ability. She worked hard and laid in some good stuff moves on the SD Womens champion. Becky, the heel, took the beating before coming back strong with the quick armbar and win in minutes. Lana looked real good and has improved greatly.
A.J. Styles-Samoa Joe Contract signing: Styles came out after Paige and discussed how he is not surprised that Joe was not in the arena in Denver. Styles was seemingly provoking Joe to come out and try another sneak attack. However, Joe showed up on the big screen somewhere else. Shockingly, Joe was recording live from Styles’s home in Georgia. Joe wanted Styles to feel helpless. Numb. Angry. Paralyzed. Joe wanted Styles to get used to those feelings because that’s exactly how he will feel after Joe pins him in Australia to become the new WWE Champion. Smackdown went off the air right after Joe rang the doorbell. Fantastic heat. Fantastic angle.
MISSES
Asuka & Naomi vs. Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville: Blah. Nothing special and was once in a flash. Deville took a roundhouse kick from Asuka and was down for the count.
