MLW TV REPORT
JUNE 15, 2018
ORLANDO, FLA.
AIRED ON BE-IN SPORTS NETWORK

Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Rich Bocchini

-MLW intro played.

-Colonel Parker was backstage giving a strategy session to The Dirty Blondes and Parrow. He said they would b able to beat team TBD no problem but they need to stay ready if they are going to beat the “Lucha boys”

-The Fusion intro video played.

-Tony Schiavone and Rich Bocchini introduced the show. They set up the main event which will be a triple threat tag team match to determine the first ever MLW Tag Team Champions. Also M.V.P will go one on one with Maxwell Jacob Friedman. They also hyped the the NYC battle riot taking place on July 19th.

-A video aired where an anonymous man was interviewing Shane Strickland as he was walking through a parking lot. The interviewer asked Strickland how he feels about the $50,000 bounty that Saline de La Renta placed on him. Strickland said he wasn’t worried about it and just as he said it, Brody King jumped out from behind a car and attacked Strickland with some sort of pipe. He tossed him into the grass and then Schiavone said they would hear from King later on in the broadcast.

-Casey Lenox was backstage with M.V.P. She asked him for his thoughts on his upcoming match with Maxwell Jacob Friedman. M.V.P. said his thoughts are all over the place. He said MJF is used to buying whatever he wants and cashing all sorts of checks. He said that this time his mouth wrote a check he can’t cash. He said he is going to take him to school and not the fancy prep schools MJF is used, but rather reform school where he is going to teach him a lesson. He said when he is done with MJF, M.V.P. will turn his thoughts to Sami Callihan. He said him and Callahan never got along and when they get together it usually gets bloody, which is a good thing for the MLW faithful.

-After Maxwell Jacob Friedman made his entrance he cut an in-ring promo. He said that tonight he is going one on one with M.V.P and then listed all of M.V.P’s nicknames. He said tonight he would add another one to that list and called M.V.P the “Jabronin Ronin”

(1) Maxwell Jacob Friedman vs. M.V.P.

MJF refused to start the match choosing to run to the ropes after lockup. After the third time, M.V.P. grabbed MJF by the shorts and gave him a suplex. He tried for a pin but the ref didn’t count. M.V.P. yelled at the ref but Schiavone correctly pointed out that M.V.P.’s knee was across MJF’s throat. Good announcing. MJF took over after he used the ref as a shield and poked M.V.P. in the eye. [c] Back from break MJF is still in control choking M.V.P. from the mat. MJF went for a mock Ballin elbow but M.V.P. got the knees up and took over on the offense. M.V.P. was selling a left arm injury. M.V.P. hit a ballin elbow then a fisherman suplex for a two count. M.V.P. hit the playmaker but Callahan and his gang came out and distracted M.V.P. M.V.P. fended them off and hit a dive to the outside on Calihan. MJF kicked the ropes while they were between M.V.P.’s legs and then used the ropes for leverage on a pin that gets the win.

WINNER: Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

(Karcher’s Comments: Not much to this match. It never really got a chance to get started when Callahan interfered. This is actually MJF’s first match on Fusion. I’ve been enjoying his Promos the last few weeks and was hoping to see a longer more involved match here. Hopefully, his feud with Janela leads to something substantial match wise.)

A promo aired detailing the Battle Riot coming up next month. They said there will be 40 wrestlers. A new competitor will enter every 60 seconds. There will be surprises and legends. The match is no DQ and weapons will be allowed. You are eliminated by pinfall, submission, or over the top rope. The winner will receive an MLW World Heavyweight title match anywhere anytime. They announced the first group of participants. Jack Hager, Barrington Hughes, Jimmy Yuta, and Pentagon Jr. More names will be announced on MLW.com every day.

-Casey Lennox was backstage with Barrington Hughes. She asked him how he feels about the bounty Salina de La Renta placed on Shane Strickland. He asked her how would she feel if she had a friend who was doing her job and was being punished for it. He said Strickland was unable to eat or sleep because he was always looking over his shoulder. He said that was not kosher and called La Renta a Bruja (witch) again. (I learned how to spell that finally)

-Team TBD was backstage. Jimmy Yuta said tonight they were coming for the tag titles. Cade said as the captain of the team he promises to lead them to victory. [c]

-Simon Gotch came out for another round of the Simon Gotch prize fight challenge. Gotch If someone can last five minutes in the ring with him that person will win $250. He said the last guy lasted a “scant” 40 seconds. Mike Parrow came out to accept the challenge.

(2) Simon Gotch (w/Tom Lawlor) vs. Mike Parrow.

Gotcha started off hot with a big kick and some elbows but Parrow knocked Gotch out of the ring with a shoulder tackle. Outside the ring, Lawlor distracted Parrow and Gotch hit Parrow from behind. The attack had no effect on Parrow and he tossed Gotch into a pole ringside. Back inside the ring, Gotch got a leg bar on Parrow. When Parrow got the ropes and Gotch broke the hold, Gotch distracted the ref and Lawlor hit Parrow with something in the head. Gotch then applied a rear naked choke and the ref called for a stoppage after a few seconds claiming Parrow was out cold. As team Filthy was celebrating the Dirty Blondes came out to the ring.

WINNER: Simon Gotch

(Karcher’s Comments: This was another non-match almost as it didn’t even make it to 5 minutes. I’m surprised they had Parrow loose as he has an impressive look to him and I thought they could have pushed him as an unbeatable big man.)

-A Brody King promo aired. He challenged Shane Strickland to a match and said he would collect the bounty that Salina de La Renta placed on Strickland.

-MLW commissioner Court Bauer called into the show and claimed to be with Strickland at his home. He said Strickland was in no condition to be giving comments. He also said that MLW did not want to sanction the match request but Strickland was insisting so next week it will be Shane Strickland vs. Brody King.

-Colonel Parker was in the wind to introduce The Dirty Blondes.

(3) The Dirty Blondes (Leo Brien & Mike Patrick) vs. Team TBD (Jimmy Yuta & Jason Cade) vs. Team Lucha ( Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix with Salina de La Renta) in a Triple Threat elimination tag team match for the MLW Tag Team Championships.

All the belts in MLW look was too big. Strickland always looks awkward with the Heavyweight title over his should and the tag titles look like they might only be slightly smaller. The crowd was chanting “zero miedo” [c]

One member from each of the three teams start off in the ring. The action quickly broke down and all 6 wrestlers quickly filled the ring. The Dirty Blondes had the advantage over both teams early. Team TDM went for dueling top rope moves but Team Lucha super kicked them out of the air. Team Lucha attempted to hit suicide dives on Team TBD but The Dirty Blondes grabbed their legs and pulled them to the outside. Team TBD then hit double dives on both teams. Leo Brien hit a senton from the ring apron. On all four opponents. Leo Brien worked over both Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix giving each a vertical suplex then Mike Patrick hit Fenix with a senton bomb for a two. Cade hit a flying knee then a spinning DDT on Patrick then cade and Yuta double teamed Mike Patrick. Yuta hit a flying elbow followed by Cade hitting a frog splash for the pin on Mike Patrick. Dirty Blondes were eliminated.

Cade chopped both Pentagon and Rey Fenix but when he hit the ropes got double super kicked to the face. Team Lucha hit a catapult senton into the corner for a two count. Team lute went for double Penta Drivers but Team TBD reversed. Yuma hit a powerbomb on Pentagon for a two. Team TBD hit a double dropkick from the top rope on Rey Fenix. Pentagon and Cade squared off and Pentagon did his hand gesture saying “Zero Miedo” and Cade proclaimed “I don’t even know what that means” Pentagon hit a sling blade. Cade hit a huge Knee to the face. Cade went for the back handspring codebreaker but Pentagon drove his knees into Cade’s back. Yuta came in to break up the pin. Yuta hit a Samoan drop and Rey Fenix hit a springboard dropkick to break up the pin. Looked very good.

Fenix hit a palé kick from the outside on Cade then hit a piledriver for a two count. Cade hit the springboard codebreaker but Pentagon broke up the pin. Cade hit a suicide dive on Pentagon. Yuta went to dive out to the outside but Fenix slide in and hit a dropkick. Fenix went to the top rope and Cade hit a springboard hurricanrana. Then Yuta hit a flying elbow followed by Cade hitting a frog splash for a very close two. Yuta held Fenix for Cade to hit a discus elbow but Fenix broke free last second and Cade hit Yuta instead. He called Yuta stupid and Pentagon and Fenix both hit their finishers on Team TBD. The fear factor for Pentagon and the rolling cutter for Fenix. Cade kicked out at two. Pentagon held Yuta in the piledriver position and Fenix went to the top rope to hit a double stomp as Pentagon hit the Penta Driver on Yuta. Fenix then dove over the top rope to take out cade outside the ring. Pentagon pinned Yuta in the ring to become the first MLW Tag Team Champions.

Post Match Salina de La Renta brought in two bottles of patron and the three celebrated in the ring as some fans were throwing money into the ring. Pentagon was pouring some Patron into fans mouths from ringside.

WINNER: Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix

(Karcher’s Comments: Wow. Fantastic match. The beginning part, with The Dirty Blondes, was just okay as the action was too wild to even follow. But once they got eliminated the action really picked up. I was very impressed with Cade and Yuta and Pentagon and Fenix continued to perform at a premier level. I’m happy that Team Lucha won because that means we will get to see more of these two teaming up and putting on fantastic matches.)

The announcers hyped next weeks match between Shane Strickland and Brody King.

FINAL THOUGHTS: A backloaded show for sure. The first two matches were barely matches at all but the main event was fantastic. Not many ongoing storylines progressed this week except the Strickland vs. King storyline. Something feels off about that whole thing already and I think it might be because Strickland is the champ yet King doesn’t seem to care about the title at all. I’m wondering what exactly he has to do to collect the bounty. Why did he leave him alone after he attacked him in the parking lot. Wouldn’t that have been the perfect opportunity to do whatever he needed to do to ensure he would be given the money from Salina. Not really sure of the logic of this entire situation. I also don’t feel any of it is necessary. The title alone should be enough stakes to build drama. Why not just have Brody King gunning for the title. I guess next week we will hopefully get some clarity as to where this is all heading. That’s all for me this week. Be sure to check back each week here on the PW torch for my MLW Fusion report. See you next week.
