“AU REVOIR”
At Hell in the Cell Sami Zayn saved the life of his greatest rival Kevin Owens by pulling him off the announce table seconds before he would have been crushed by Shane McMahon. That was the kick-starter for a new beautiful friendship between the Canadians, and was hopefully the end to their years long war with one another that has left neither man stronger or more successful. Unfortunately, that reunion did NOT last long. After failing to win the WWE championship AS A TEAM Sami and K.O. will instead do battle in a #1 contender’s matchup this evening in Kansas City. Owens has already had his fair share of battles with the current champ A.J. Styles, so does that mean it is Zayn’s chance to shine in the sun? Nothing is for sure, but there is a level of confidence in the former likeable one that hasn’t been seen since he challenged Neville for the NXT Championship, and we all remember how that ended.
“WHAT DAY IS IT?”
I’m really split down the core on this one. Bobby Roode easily was one of the most prestigious NXT Champions in the brands history, but his tenure on the main roster has been a hit and miss affair. So when he defeated Jinder Mahal to become United States Champion I was ecstatic because the Glorious One finally garnered some momentum. He’s even had a successful defense of the title on a pre-show! (Good for you Bobby!) Now, he must face a much more worthy adversary, and probably the most popular man in all of sports entertainment currently…Rusev. Ever since it was discovered that Rusev Day was EVERY SINGLE DAY, the Bulgarian Brute has won the hearts of the entire wrestle-universe. Is it time to give Ru-Ru another run as the U.S. Champion, or can the Glorious One keep the gold to go along with his delicious looking robe?
“RELEASE THE HOUNDS”
-The Uso penitentiary continues to keep the blue brand’s tag division on lockdown. Will anyone step up to challenge the superkicking Samoans? My best guess is the Harper and Rowan, the brothers who Bludgeon, will finally step up to the plate.
-Breezango could also try their hand at fighting, but they are much more suited for Fashion Files which made a triumphant return to T.V. last week!
-In the women’s division the SmackDown Champion Charlotte looks to exact some revenge on Liv Morgan and the Riott Squad. The beat down the Nature Girl took last week almost led to Carmella cashing in her Money in the Bank contract. Fortunately for Charlotte, Carmella is about as capable of doing something positive for her career as Curt Hawkins is.
-Speaking of failed cash-ins…Baron Corbin begins a new streak of mayhem. He defeated Tye Dillinger last week and will be looking to keep that momentum going before Fastlane pops up in five weeks.
-As for the Authority of Tuesday nights? Well General Manager Daniel Bryan is teasing that he will list the top 10 SmackDown “superstars.” Expect him to be paraded by a slew of talent trying to position themselves higher on D.B.’s list. Will commissioner Shane McMahon try and assist his GM in any way? What of their past discrepancies with one another? Has the beef finally been squashed, or can we still keep our fingers crossed that we’ll get to see the American Dragon break some bones.
-Shinsuke Nakamura is still flying high from his Royal Rumble victory and scored the winning pinfall last week when he teamed up with A.J. Styles. Will the champion and the challenger continue to tease us about their potential historic Mania matchup? Will Shinsuke ensure that he faces Styles by interfering with whomever A.J. challenges at Fastlane? Time my friends…. will tell.
Plenty of time to plant some seeds for an eventual payoff. Five weeks until Fastlane. You watching?
