SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
WWE LIVE EVENT
JANUARY 21, 2018
BINGHAMTON, N.Y.
REPORT BY RYAN WOODFORD, PWTORCH CORRESPONDENT
(1) Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews defeated Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson and Sheamus & Cesaro when Crews pinned Sheamus.
(2) Golddust pinned Curt Hawkins.
(3) Heath Slater & Rhyno defeated The Revival.
(4) Alexa Bliss defeated Bayley and Mickie James in a Triple Threat match for the Women’s Title.
As Bliss was exiting the stage area, Curt Hawkins slipped past Bliss towards the ring. Hawkins grabbed a mic and explained how he wanted to end his 160-something match losing steak. He wanted one more chance with a wrestler from the locker room. Cue Braun Strauman’s music.
(5) Braun Strauman pinned Curt Hawkins. Braun talked after his win about Hawkins interrupting his mixed tag partner Bliss and getting what he deserved. Then Kane’s music played. Impromptu match between Kane and Braun
(6) Braun Strauman defeated Kane via DQ. Kane hit Braun with the metal stairs to get the loss. Braun retaliated by slamming Kane through a table. Surprisingly, Braun showed off to the crowd afterwards, high-fived fans, signed autographs, and made his rounds up and down the aisle before flexing and screaming one last time. Strange considering the terror trail this guy has been on recently with Raw (grappling hook to Kane and Brock Lesnar, tossing Michael Cole of the stage).
INTERMISSION
(7) Asuka & Dana Brooke defeated Absolution (w/Paige).
(8) Finn Balor defeated Elias
(9) Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins defeated The Miz & Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas. Seth attempted a Blackout (a/k/a Curb Stomp) on Bo Dallas halfway through the match, but Bo rolled out of it. Rollins did connect on his second Blackout attempt at the conclusion of the match with Axel. Reigns and Rollins hit Miz with their Shield powerbomb for the win. Nice main event overall. Lots of kickouts from finishing moves and sequenced moves to bring the match an exciting finish.
FINAL THOUGHTS: This was an okay house show at best. The arena was 90 percent full with a family-friendly crowd. Merchandise table was showered with Roman Reigns and John Cena stuff. Biggest pops were Balor, Rollins, and Reigns. Some scattered boos thrown in with Reigns’s entrance. Balor vs. Elias was entertaining and fun to watch. The main event was great. The remaining matches were short and average in entertainment value. Seemed as if the rest were all mostly going through the motions, in a hurry to finish and get out.
