“THE FACE OF THE U.K.”
After a wild weekend in Houston, NXT airs their pre-taped matches from the Toyota Center. The biggest bout which surprisingly didn’t make it to the main broadcast is Johnny Gargano challenging for the United Kingdom championship held by the Bruiserweight Pete Dunne. Gargano has been on a vicious slump recently, and doesn’t hasn’t seemed like his true self since the events that transpired in Chicago. Dunne in the meantime has been dominating his division since that faithful evening at the Allstate Arena, and even made an appearance on the main roster to slap some silliness into cruiserweight champion Enzo Amore. Considering the work-rate of these two, this should be a fantastic affair.
“FINAL DAY IN THE SUN”
The other slated match for the evening is Ruby Riot facing off against Sonya Deville. There wouldn’t be too much to read into this as these two really hadn’t been feuding, but it does hold some merit since both are now appearing Monday and Tuesday nights. Sonya and fellow NXT mate Mandy Rose joined a returning Paige to beat down the red-brand women’s division. (Except for Asuka of course.) Ruby meanwhile formed her own faction with Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan to strike fear into SD scene. Expect Mauro and company to put both ladies over as they face off in perhaps their final NXT match.
“FALLOUT”
Besides these two matches there shouldn’t be anything too noteworthy on this episode. Taping will resume this week, so tonight will mainly be a recap of the carnage caused this weekend by Takeover WarGames. Andrade Cien Almas is your new NXT Champion and Zelina Vega will be more than happy to tell us “I told you so.” Ember Moon is finally on top where she belongs, but it’s only a matter of time before her Houston opponents decide to go after that target on her shoulder. Hopefully their will be an update on the status of Drew McIntyre as he suffered a pretty bad bicep injury that could possibly shelve him for several months. Even if he isn’t going to be gone for too long, he seems destined to move up to the main roster. Lars Sullivan and Aleister Black both scored huge victories on Sunday, but what next?
Worth watching for Gargano/Dunne alone, but other than that, look forward to the buildup to Takeover Philadelphia.
