Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega’s “Twitter war” culminated in a challenge that will lead to a match at WrestleKingdom 12 on Jan. 12, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s biggest annual super show.
After weeks of poking fun at one another on the Twitter machine, “The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla” Chris Jericho has challenged “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega to a matchup. Rumors had speculated that this could happen, but many assumed it would happen on Jericho’s “Rock and Wrestling” boat cruise. In all honesty, it still might considering that event is not televised. However, the challenge took place at New Japan’s Power Struggle event last night where he challenged Omega.

Galizia’s Analysis: Wrestle Kingdom is NJPW’s equivalent to WrestleMania, and for the last decade has been the top quality wrestling PPV every year. At this year’s event, the main event featured an epic Kazuchika Okada vs. Kenny Omega bout for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship that some have referred to as the greatest wrestling match of all time. That event also included Cody Rhodes, who left WWE due to his lack of direction and has certainly benefited for the better because of it. He himself was was able to get extra eye’s on the Tokyo Dome show last year, so Jericho should be an added boost.
This WK’s card is already shaping up to be another classic with G1 winner Tetsuya Naito facing the champ Okada in the main event in what could be the MOTY for 2018. (And it will only be January.) However, between the popularity of Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho, the Dome and NJPW may have just gotten its new marquee selling point.
