ABOUT THE SHOW: The Pro Wrestling Spotlight radio show debuted April 9, 1989 on WNYG and went off the air in 1995. The radio show was among a handful of regional pro wrestling radio shows that covered pro wrestling with a journalistic approach for “smart” (i.e. “smartened up to the business”) insider ardent wrestling fans. He regularly featured Pro Wrestling Torch’s Wade Keller and the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, among other pro wrestling journalists and columnists, to talk about current events and the inner working and business side of the industry. He also had some of the first recorded long-form interviews with wrestlers and promoters speaking opening about pro wrestling outside of the usual “kayfabe” parameters. It’s a historically significant program documenting pro wrestling in a way that just wasn’t widely available to fans at the time. Hundreds of episodes spanning its years on the air are available to PWTorch VIP members with more being added, usually on a weekly basis with shows usually dropping on Thursday nights.
