LUCHA UNDERGROUND – “Fade to Black” (Season 3 Episode #28)

The show opened with a recaps of the Cueto Cup, Drago-AeroStar, Mundo-Mysterio, Son of Madness-Son of Havoc, PJ Black-Mysterio.
-Title Card
Announcers: Striker welcomed the audience to the show. Striker and Vampiro built up the Cueto Cup matches for later tonight.
In ring: Santos introduced The Mack followed by Texano.
1 – THE MACK vs. TEXANO – Cueto Cup second round match
They shook hands to start the match. Mack hit an armdrag to get things going then attempted several pins. Both men reset and shook hands again. Mackdodged several clotheslines then hit a kick. Mack kicked Texano on the ring apron to knock him off. Mack then leaped to the outside hitting a senton on Texano. Mack rolled Texano back into the ring and landed a few knees to the back followed by a neck breaker. Mack cornered Texano into the turnbuckle and landed some chops. Texano escaped and hit a crossbody. He then put Mack in the corner and landed some chops of his own. Mack hit an uppercut on Texano knocking him off the ring apron. Mack rolled to the outside and hit a tilt-a-whirl back breaker.
Texano attempted to suplex Mack into the ring. Mack blocked it and hit a suplex of his own and a scoop slam. Famous B came into the ring and shot a water gun at Mack. Mack then hit a stunner on Famous B. Texano took advantage of the distraction and hit a sit down power bomb for the win.
WINNER: Texano at 7:17 to advance in the Cueto Cup.
[Break]
-Son of Havoc sat a bar. Son of Madness grabbed his drink and drank it. They fought with each oher in the bar. Madness harassed Havoc about leaving their group and how he turne his back on them then left.
-Mascarita Sagrada brought a gift to the Rabbit Tribe. They opened the gift to find a rabbit tail. At which point they all screamed.
In ring: Santos introduced Drago followed by Pentagon Dark.

2 – Trios Tag Champion DRAGO (w/Kobra Moon) vs. PENTAGON DARK – Cueto Cup second round match
Both men attempted pins quickly. Pentagon landed a hard chop. Pentagon fell to the outside allowing Drago to hit a corkscrew. Drago tossed Pentagon into the barricade. Both men back in the ring, each landed strikes to knock each other down. Drago tried to roll ovr Pentagon for several pin attempts. Pentagon hit a dropkick as Drago went for a springboard move. Drago came back with a swinging neck breaker. Pentagon caught Drago and hit a pile driver for a two count. Drago climbed the turnbuckle and hit a swining DDT. Pentagon sat on top of the turn buckle alloweing Drago to hit a Frankensteiner followed by a frog splash for a two count. Pentagon flipped over Drago in the corner for a Mexican destroyer. Pentagon got ahold of Drago again to hit a package piledriver for the win.
WINNER: Pentagon at 7:56 to advance in the Cueto Cup.
Post match: Pentagon dragged Drago to the center of the ring. Kobra Moon ran into the ring and Pentagon hit her with a super kick. AeroStar made the save to Drago. Drago then turned on AeroStar and beat him down. Pentagon then climbed on top of AeroStar and “broke“ his arm.
[Break]
As Pentagon was walking in the back he came across Catrina. Catrina said he took something from Mil Muertes and Mil never forgets. Pentagon gave the Cero Mideo gesture and Catrina teleported behind him. She said that if Pentagon and Mil meet in the finals he won’t just end his chances at the Cueto Cup, he’ll end him.
In ring: Santos introduced PJ Black followed by Rey Mysterio.

3 – PJ BLACK vs. REY MYSTERIO JR.
Rey hit a hurricarana then Black hit a big boot. Rey flung Black to the outside. Rey slide to the outside. Black caught Mysterio and dropped Rey’s back onto his shoulders. Black landed a punch off the top rope. Black continued to work Rey’s mid section with a submission. Rey set up for a 619, but Black got off the ropes and hit a super kick. Black leaped off the top rope while Rey hit him with a drop kick. They traded strikes in he center of the Rey then Rey launched Black to the outside. Rey hit a moonsault off the ropes then rolled Black back into the ring and hit two spring board attacks. Rey hit tilt-a-whirl headscissors knocking Black into the corner. Rey got caught on the turnbuckle then Black stomped on Rey’s torso. Black hit a spinning kick then climbed the top rope. Rey caught him on the ropes. Rey hit a Frankensteiner but Black rolled through and hit a Styles Clash. Rey hit a DDT, but in the process, knocked over the ref. Mundo came into the ring and beat down Rey. Jack Evans came into the ring helped Black and Mudo take out Rey. El Dragon Azteca came into the ring to make the save. Taya caught Dragon and pulled him out of the ring. Mundo dragged Black onto Rey. Rey kicked out at two. Rey countered Black and hit a 619 followed by a springboard attack for the win.
WINNER: Rey Mysterio at 11:30.
Post match: Rey grabbed a microphone. Rey told Mundo he won’t be able to run his whole life. He said in 4 weeks he will see him back in this ring for the Lucha Uderground Championship. He said Mundo won’t leave empty handed, he’ll leave with a 619.
FINAL THOUGHTS: The ending to Black-Mysterio is about as clichéd as it gets. You’re telling me the referee couldn’t see or hear any of the interference that was happening? That makes it look like such a farce. It’s a wrestling trope that has been lazily done for years. I wouldn’t it, if it was rarely done and they found a better way to do interference where it doesn’t make the referee look totally stupid.
