Matt Anoa’i, known to WWE viewers as Rosey, has died at age 47. He wrestled for WWE from 2002 to 2006. He was part of Three Minute Warning with his cousin Jamal and later teamed with The Hurricane (Hurricane Helms). He was the brother of Roman Reigns and was the son of Sika of the Wild Samoan tag team featured in the WWF in the 1980s. After leaving WWE, he wrestled on the indy scene and most recently was involved in promoting Epic Championship Wresting in Florida.
He had put on considerable weight since his days in WWE and was hospitalized a few years ago with heart issues.
The family released a statement regarding his death, via WWE.com:
The Anoa’i family is mourning the loss of Sika’s son, Matt aka Rosey, due to an untimely death. We want to let his fans know that he loved them and the wrestling world so much. In his passing, he left three beautiful young children and a heartbroken family. Please respect the privacy of his children and family as they mourn the loss of this kind, loving, gentle man, who was a father, son, brother and a superhero to us all. Our family appreciates your prayers and continued support during this very difficult time.
Hurricane Helms posted acknowledgment on Twitter and Instagram. He wrote: “My partner. My friend.”
