SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
Shawn Michaels plays a church volunteer in what is being touted as “an inspirational comedy film” titled “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone.” It is set for release in theaters nationwide on Jan. 20. The following is the press release:
Shawn grew up quite kid from San Antonio, Tex., but wrestling is where he discovered his identity. It was also drugs and alcohol that brought out his personality. Since 1988, Shawn is known as a legendary WWE Hall of Fame pro wrestler and known as Showstopper, The Headliner, The Main Event, The Icon, and Mr. WrestleMania. He is now head of the WWE Performance Center.
Shawn dedicated his life to God in 2002 when he found himself sitting in a church parking lot. Since then he gave up a life of partying and drugs. He credits the prayers of his wife that he married in 1999 that led him to his faith (her daily prayers in her closet over her husband). Shawn is starring along side of Brett Dalton (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Anjelah Johnson-Reyes in The Resurrection of Gavin Stone.
The film is directed Dallas Jenkins (producer of What If… and Hometown Legend and the son of author Jerry Jenkins of Left Behind series) and released in association with Vertical Church Film (Pastor James MacDonald).
The Resurrection of Gavin Stone is an inspirational comedy about faith and forgiveness. Gavin Stone, a washed-up former child star, is forced to do community service at a local megachurch and pretends to be Christian so he can land the part of Jesus in their annual Passion Play, only to discover that the most important role of his life is far from Hollywood.
