Dark Matches
(a) Manny Andrade beat Tino Sabbatelli.
(b) NXT tag champions American Alpha beat The Authors of Pain.
Episode 1 (May 25)
William Regal announced that after her match with Nia Jax last week, Bayley is not medically cleared to face Asuka at Takeover. He had planned to announce that match tonight, but instead, there will be a triple threat main event tonight between Nia Jax, Carmella, and Alexa Bliss to determine Asuka’s challenger at Takeover.
(1) Johnny Gargano & Tomasso Ciampa beat TM-61 (formerly TMDK). This was awesome. Really hard-hitting and fast paced. Post-match, the teams shared mutual respect in the ring to an extended ovation.
– Austin Aries came to the ring for a promo. He spoke about the over-use of the term “the best” in pro wrestling. He talked about the timing of arriving in NXT at the time as a fellow “best”… Out came Shinsuke Nakamura to a thunderous pop. Shinsuke stopped Aries from staking his claim to a title shot, saying that the title belongs with the “King” not just the “Best” (prolonged “King of Strong Style” chant). William Regal came out and booked Aries vs. Nakamura for Takeover.
(2) No Way Jose beat Johnny Vandal.
(3) Nia Jax beat Carmella and Alexa Bliss to become the number one contender to the NXT Women’s championship.
After the match, Asuka entered the ring for an intense stare down with Jax. Side note, Asuka has slimmed down and toned up quite a lot. She looks in great shape.
End of first episode.
Episode 2 (June 1)
The Revival promised to become two-time NXT Tag Champs at Takeover. They were interrupted by Ciampa and Gargano. A verbal spat and attempted ambush ended in the Revival being cleared from the ring before leaving embarrassed.
(1) Tye Dillinger beat Buddy Murphy.
(2) Austin Aries beat Elias Samson.
Post-match, Aries took the mic and heeled on the crowd, then Nakamura. The crowed drowned the whole thing out in Nakamura chants.
William Regal presided over a contract signing between Asuka and Nia Jax. Asuka took a powerbomb from Jax, to Regal’s dismay.
(3) Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa upset The Revival. Gargano rolled through Dawson’s superplex into a roll-up pin.
Post-match, Revival hit the shatter machine on Ciampa. American Alpha made the save before they could do more damage. The teams brawled to close the episode.
This was the final episode leading into Takeover.
NXT followed with some live event matches with Performance Center talent to pad out the time. The advertised main event is NXT champion Samoa Joe & Tye Dillinger vs. Finn Balor & Shinsuke Nakamura.

Bonus Dark Matches
(1) Adrienne Reese beat Nikki Glencross (f/k/a Nikki Storm)
(2) Shinsuke Nakamura & Finn Balor beat NXT champion Samoa Joe & Tye Dillinger. Nakamura pinned Joe after a Kinshasa. I assumed Tye would be the fall guy, so surprising result!
Overall, NXT does a great job making their non-televised bits feel really special. The main event was a great, crowd-pleasing match to send everybody home happy. Another fun night of wrestling.
