SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
Barring another setback, it appears that C.M. Punk is getting closer to his first UFC fight this summer.
Punk’s penciled-in debut opponent, Mickey Gall, said on a podcast this week that he just filmed a whole day of content building up the fight and expects to fight Punk sometime this summer.
I think it’s going to be this summer, which I can do. I can wait,” Gall told the SFLC Podcast. “I’m training and I’m getting better and what I can’t wait for is to get my fight with C.M. Punk, beat C.M. Punk, and then get started with the UFC roster.”
Gall said he contemplated fighting someone else while waiting for Punk to recover from a recent training injury. However, he’s willing to wait to fight Punk, who he sees as a stepping stone to bigger things in UFC.
“I will be fighting Punk. Exactly when, I do not know. Just today I spent the entire day filming with the crew about the lead-up to the fight,” Gall said. “All this because I’m fighting C.M. Punk. That’s happening, exactly when I do not know, but it’s happening.”
Meanwhile, Punk has a court battle to deal with this summer. WWE physician Chris Amann’s lawsuit against Punk & Colt Cabana is scheduled for trial on June 27 in Chicago. Punk’s debut fight will likely happen later this summer, though, after the legal issue is resolved.
