APRIL 21 UPDATE: Officials in New Jersey are unsure of Balls Mahoney’s exact cause of death last week, reports the Asbury Park Press newspaper. It could take “considerable more time” to complete an examination, but they do not consider it suspicious.

“The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner and it usually takes a few months for all the studies and reports to be returned,” said Charles Webster, spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

APRIL 14 UPDATE: Obituary and funeral information has been released following the death of Balls Mahoney (Jon Rechner).

The visitation and funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, April 30 at O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall, New Jersey.

Former ECW star Balls Money died Tuesday (April 12), according to former ECW colleagues.

WWE acknowledged his death Tuesday night: “WWE is saddened to learn of reports that Jonathan Rechner, best known for competing in ECW as Balls Mahoney, has passed away. WWE extends its condolences to Rechner’s family, friends, and fans.”

Mahoney died at the age of 44 one day after his birthday.

Mahoney reportedly took a fall last week, affecting his health. Pro Wrestling Sheet reports from talking to Mahoney’s wife that Mahoney was watching TV on Tuesday evening when he became unresponsive. 911 was called attempting to revive him, but he was unresponsive and eventually pronounced dead.

Mahoney is the second former ECW star to die in the last two months. Axl Rotten died in February.

A fundraiser has been launched to help pay for funeral costs and for Mahoney’s family following his death.
