WrestleMania Friday News & Notes
– The Associated Press published a story hyping WrestleMania trying to upstage the Final Four in Texas. WM32, post-Mania Raw, and surrounding events takes place in Dallas this weekend, while the NCAA Final Four, Championship Game, and surrounding events take place in Houston. Both are competing to be the biggest spectacle of the weekend in Texas. The AP noted that WM32 wants to draw 100,000 fans to AT&T Stadium in Arlington to break their WM3 record.
– Brock Lesnar talked to the AP about his latest high-profile WrestleMania match and adding a few more dates to his schedule since last year. “Vince (McMahon) got his checkbook out and he’s writing more checks. But, I have a limit and we’re at that limit right now,” Lesnar said.
“There could be five people in the stands or 100,000 people, I don’t treat it any differently. I approach the competition the same. That’s just my mentality. I don’t get caught up in the business. I show up, I do my job, I collect my check and I go home.”
– Paul Heyman talked to CBS Sports about the challenge of trying to do the “Paul Heyman Guys” faction when Brock Lesnar is not on TV.
“There is no simple answer to this question. Reason why is there are both positives and negatives to it. Yes, I can expand the fact that I advocate for more than just Brock Lesnar. Putting my voice behind another talent – and the credibility that Brock Lesnar’s advocate would be the voice of someone else – instantly puts that person in the spotlight,” Heyman said. “The downside of it is Brock Lesnar is such a unique person, a unique character, a unique individual in this industry that placing me with someone else only begs the question, ‘Where is Brock Lesnar?'”
– Sting talked to Fox Sports ahead of his WWE Hall of Fame induction. Sting said he’s not ruling out wrestling again. “I feel great. I’m in the gym, I’m still training as I always was,” Sting said. He also relayed his injury advice to Seth Rollins, who was his (last?) opponent at Night of Champions in September in Houston.
“While you’re going through [rehab], it can seem like an eternity, and like [it’s] impossible – but the truth of the matter is, by the time you look at it – it’s easy for me to say now after 30 years – it’s a little tiny blip on the radar screen. And he’ll come out of it, so I’ve just tried to encourage him like that,” Sting said.
– Hulk Hogan chimed in on Twitter about missing WrestleMania after being cut from the company in July 2015. “Thinking about it,it really seems weird not being at @WWE WrestleMania, really weird, but I will be there in spirit, go Shane!!!!! only love HH,” Hogan tweeted.
