Update: JBL and Ron Simmons (APA) will induct The Godfather into the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame, as announced Monday night on Raw.
Charles Wright, who played The Godfather and Papa Shango, will be inducted into this year’s WWE Hall of Fame class.
WWE officially announced Wright’s induction on Monday afternoon following a report by Jonathan Snowden for Bleacher Report.
Wright joins Sting as the first two HOF inductees.
“I can’t wait to see the fans and tell them how much I appreciate them. They don’t forget. I really appreciate everything WWE has done for me and I really appreciate all the fans,” he told Snowden in an interview accompanying the initial report. “It’s such a big honor. I never expected to be in the Hall of Fame. Brother, that’s for eternity man.”
The 2016 WWE HOF ceremony takes place Saturday, April 2 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas the weekend of WrestleMania 32.
