WWE on ESPNews SportsCenter Week 8
December 15, 2015
Guest: WWE World Hvt. champion Roman Reigns
Host: Jonathan Coachman
During the 9:00 p.m. EST hour of SportsCenter on Tuesday night, Roman Reigns joined Coach to discuss his year-long journey, culminating with winning the WWE Title.
Reigns specifically focused on how the year started at the Royal Rumble in Philadelphia when he won the Rumble and was met with a “reaction that didn’t go our way.”
“From there I was scratching and clawing dealing with a lot of adversity trying to show that you can turn it around, and that’s what happened last night in Philly,” Reigns said. “It was an amazing moment. I honestly think it was fate for this to happen back in Philly to have a completely different reaction, and for it to be on my daughter’s birthday was awesome.”
Coach played up the storyline of Reigns taking out Triple H and Mr. McMahon the past two nights, and what consequences he will face. Reigns said he understands now the gravity of what he did, but he had enough of being prevented from winning the WWE Title.
As for 2016, especially WrestleMania, Reigns said his number one goal is staying healthy. “You have to be cautious,” Reigns said after dealing with an injury like his hernia.
Reigns also talked about his wrestling family and his daughter, sending her a birthday message that he can’t wait to get home.
Coach closed the segment by noting that former WWF champion Bret Hart was on the sidelines at last Sunday’s Baltimore Ravens NFL game.
Prior to Reigns’s interview, Coach went through his weekly list of awards from WWE’s TLC and Raw shows.
– Top Move: Kalisto with the Salida del Sol on Jey Uso from the top of a ladder during the WWE Tag Title ladder match at TLC.
– Top Match: Wyatts vs. Team Extreme on Raw. Coach highlighted Luke Harper having a rough night, but the Wyatts won by pinning Rhyno.
– Top Return: Mr. McMahon returning and confronting Roman Reigns, including kicking him in the groin.
– Top Moment: Reigns pinning Sheamus to win the WWE Title after overcoming McMahon’s interference.
