New details on John Cena’s Fox TV project – when will filming end?

December 4 Update: More details have emerged on the new Fox TV series “American Grit” starring John Cena.

– Filming is scheduled to run through December 16, according to a local report by The Dispatch in Washington state. It makes it seem unlikely for Cena to be back on WWE TV in-time for the TLC PPV in his hometown of Boston on Dec. 13.

– “American Grit” is scheduled to air on Fox in Spring 2016. In last month’s press release, Fox was vague about the show premiering sometime “in 2016.”

– The series began filming in mid-November in locations of Little Mashell Falls and Pack Forest.

– The production company, Leftfield Pictures, paid the town of Eatonville, Wash. a $2,000 fee for “exclusive access” to Little Mashell Falls to film interviews and other scenes. The producers also filmed other town-owned locations.

WWE top star John Cena revealed Wednesday the first details on his rumored Fox TV project.

Cena, who has been on a “break” from WWE filming the series, said the show is called “American Grit.”

The show sounds similar to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s “Broken Skull Challenge” on CMT. Cena described his role as “guiding 16 contestants through military & survival-themed challenges.”

WWE followed up with more details on the project from Fox and Leftfield Pictures, but neither Cena nor WWE said when the show is scheduled to premiere. Fox issued a separate press release offering a broad window that the show will air “in 2016.”

• The show is slotted for ten episodes.
• 16 men and women will be split into four teams
• Representatives from the U.S. military will be mentors for the contestants
• Each episode will end with an obstacle course, “The Circus” to eliminate the weakest team.
• The last team standing “has a chance to win a $1 million prize.”

Cena has recently appeared on NBC’s “Today” show trying to gain more exposure with mainstream viewers who would otherwise not know who he is from WWE TV. Fox hopes Cena will be marketable in the hosting role of the show.
