SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)...
ROH live event report
October 14, 2005
Cleveland, Ohio
Report by Justin Parker, PWTorch.com ROH Specialist
Fairly large crowd for a debut. I’d say around 700.
Bryan Danielson comes out to cut a promo. Aries comes out to rebut and say that he has respect for Dragon. Danielson seemed pretty lax in his first promo as champion and the crowd really did not respond well to it.
(1) Claudio Castangoli (a/k/a Cesaro) beat Nigel McGuiness with a rollup in a non-title match. Good technical match.
(2) Ricky Reyes over Matt Striker in a quick win. Reyes’ Taz-like push continues.
(3) Sal Riunaro & Tony Mamaluke over B.J. Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs to retain the ROH tag team championships. Great match, crowd popped huge for a lot of the match. I would rank this second best match of the night.
(4) Roderick Strong over Jimmy Yang. Solid match, hard hitting offense from both. Never really got to the next level though.
(5) Colt Cabana & Steve Corino over Homicide & Low Ki. Good match, started off kind of slow but picked up into a great ending. Corino coming out dressed as Punk has to be seen to be believed. Instead of “Straightedge” tattooed around his belly, he had “I Love Beer”. Classic
(6) Abyss over Jack Evans after killing the ROH students. Quick match to show that Abyss is a monster. Great mic work from Nana in this.
(7) Samoa Joe & Jay Lethal over Jimmy Rave & Alex Shelley. The Embassy are great heels. Lethal played Ricky Morton well in this match, and Joe came in to finish off the heels.
(8) Bryan Danielson over Austin Aries to retain the ROH World Hvt. Title in what was a great, long technical match with many innovative moves. Ranks up there with these guys’ best matches against each other.
Overall: Good show, the Cleveland crowd was pretty into most of the action. I’ll see you in Buffalo tommorrow.
