DEHNEL’S LUCHA UNDERGROUND REVIEW 12/7: Sexy Star vs. “The Darewolf” P.J. Black, Jonny Mundo, Dr. Wagner, Joey Ryan, Mil Muertes, Texano

The show opened with a recaps of Johnny Mundo winning the title and Angelico making his return to LU, Cage-Texano and Sexy Star-Taya.

Dario’s Office: Angelico entered Dario’s office. Angelico demanded a match with Mundo tonight. Dario said that Mundo’s lawyer has made it difficult to make the match. Angelico said maybe he should get a lawyer after what happened to him. Dario went to shake hands with Angelico but Angelico pushed his hand down. Dario told Angelico he can compete in a battle of the bulls to face Mundo.

Announcers: Vampiro welcomed the audience to the show. Vampiro hyped Battle of the Bulls Tournament to face the LU champion. Striker explained the rules which are four 4 way matches who ever when those four matches will then face each other in a four way elimination match to determine the number one contender to the Lucha Underground Championship.

[JD’s Reax: I was very distracted by Vampiro’s shirt being blurred out.]

In ring: Santos introduced the first Battle of the Bulls Tournament. Santos introduced the first three participants then Famous B interrupted her. Before he could introduce Wagner, Cage knocked him down.

1 – CAGE vs. TEXANO vs. JOEY RYAN vs. DR. WAGNER (w/Famous B and Brenda) – 4-Way Battle of the Bulls Tournament match #1

Everyone brawled each other. Texano stood toe to toe to trade blows. Texano beat Cage with a bull rope. Texano dove onto Wagner and Ryan on the outside. Cage then performed a moonsault from the top turnbuckled onto everyone. Cage beat on Texano back in the ring. Wagner and Ryan came back in the ring. Texano took out Wagner and Ryan then attempted a pin which was broken up by Cage. Wagner fired up and took down everyone. Ryan was able to countere Wagner, but Cage came in and dominated Ryan. Ryan fought Cage on the turnbouckle and hit a swinging neck breaker from the second rope. Ryan went to the top. Wagner and Texano tried to superplex him. Texano came from under and hit a power bomb flipping everyone off the turnbuckle. Everyone hit moves and kicks on each other. Texano hit a sit down power bomb on Ryan. Cage broke up the pin by hitting Texano with the bull rope then got the pin victory.

WINNER: Cage at 8:38 to win the first Battle of the Bulls match.

Backstage: Dario spoke to Star in his office. Dario said he thinks that the Worldwide Underground from her. He said that she will face PJ Black and if she wins she will get a rematch with Mundo. Dario said that if she wins, her title match will be in a steel cage and if she loses she will never get a rematch for the title again. Star accepted the challenged and said if Dario doesn’t keep his promises she will get back at him.

[JD’s Reax: I love that Star shows fire and doesn’t back down to the heel authority figure.]

Police Station: Castro came in the Captain Vasquez’s office and said Dario knows about the whole plan. She said Dario is not a good man. She said she needs him to go back to the temple. She gave him a mask to use when he returns to the temple.

In ring: Santos introduced Sexy Star to the ring. Next out was PJ Black.

[Break]

2 – SEXY STAR vs. “THE DAREWOLF” P.J. BLACK

Star tried to roll up Black quickly. She landed a kick followed by a hurricarana. Black followed up with a knee then a fore arm across the back. Black rolled Star across the ring, but she fought back with some strikes then hit a spring board hurricarana. Black slammed Star then placed his foot on top of her. Black put Star in a pendulum submission and bounced her head off the turnbuckle pad. Black let go and Star tried a choke hold, but Black reversed it into a suplex. Black followed it up with a springboard moonsault. He climbed to the top turnbuckle. Star knocked him down. Star attempted a hurricarana but Black reversed it and hit a Styles Clash. Star kicked out at two then Black missed a second moonsault. Star fought back and hit a DDT. Jack Evans came out and distracted the ref. Evans tried to give Black a bat but accidentally kicked him out which allowed Star to roll up Black for the win.

WINNER: Sexy Star at 6:30.

Unknown location: Kobra Moon explained her tribe while she sat on a throne. She said the tribe was defeated but the two in front of her have survived the blood line. She said she wanted the man who one was a dragon to kneel before her because she is the queen.

[Break]

Backstage: Dario asked Matanza if he’s sure he doesn’t want to be in The Battle of the Bulls Tournament. Dario said that he put El Dragon Azteca in the Battle of the Bulls instead. Matanza grabbed Dario’s neck and slammed him against the cage knocking him out. Matanza reached for the cage key.

In ring: Santos introduced the competitors to the ring.

3 – MARTY “THE MOTH” MARTINEZ vs. EL DRAGON AZTECA, JR. vs. THE MACK vs. MIL MUERTES (w/Catrina) – 4-Way Battle of the Bulls Tournament match #2

Everyone attacked Mil to start, but Mil fought off everyone. Mack and Marty tossed Mil to the outside. They teamed up on Dragon, but dragon escaped and took down Mack with a DDT. Mil came charging back in withe spear to Dragon. Marty and Mil fought back and forth. Mack worked on taking down Mil. Dragon, Mil and Marty all brawled in the ring the Dragon leaped onto Mack on the outside. Muertes speared Marty through the ropes to the outside. Muertes took Dragon back into the ring. Dragon tried to fight back but Mil landed a right hand. Mil set up for a flatline but Mack came in and hit a stunner the Marty slammed Mil. Dragon kicked Mack. Mil picked up Dragon, but Dragon launched Mil into the corner then splashed him from the top. Dragon climbed the turnbuckle again. Matanza came out and beat down Dragon. Matana hit Wrath of the Gods. Dario came out with the key and a bloody towel to his face. He called for Matanza to return. Mack hit a stunner on Marty for the win.

WINNER: The Mack at 8:26.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Much better show than last week. I knew who the heels and faces. Striker actually did a nice job on commentary getting over the babyfaces in every match. Battle of the Bulls is an interesting concept that is making good use of the massive roster… My favorite character on LU has to be Sexy Star. I loved that she read through Dario’s BS and stood up to him. I’m very disappointed that LU gave her a one week reign, but hopefully this leads to her winning it back sometime soon which feels unlikely at this point. Mundo has a nice amount of challengers lined up for him.
