ROH Final Battle PPV News & Notes 12/18

– Jay Lethal retained the ROH World Title over A.J. Styles in a 22-minute main event. Lethal won clean with two Lethal Injections and Jerry Lynn’s cradle piledriver finisher. Lynn was at ringside on commentary as part of a mini-feud with Lethal leading into Final Battle.

– War Machine (Hanson & Ray Rowe) captured the ROH Tag Titles from The Kingdom’s Matt Taven & Michael Bennett (w/Maria Kanellis). It was a quick match with Taven taking a clean loss, likely writing off The Kingdom.

– Roderick Strong retained the ROH TV Title over Bobby Fish using the Undertaker-Brock Lesnar finish from Summerslam where Strong tapped out to Fish out-of-sight of the referee, Fish celebrated, and Strong pinned Fish to retain the title.

– All Night Express won a #1 contender match to the ROH Tag Titles over the Young Bucks and The Briscoes. This sets up Rhett Titus & Kenny King as the next challengers to War Machine.

– Dalton Castle re-acquired the services of his “Boys” duo. Castle lost to Silas Young, but the Boys re-joined Castle after the match.

– ROH’s part of New Japan’s Tokyo Dome Show is now complete. Lethal will defend the ROH World Title against Michael Elgin on January 4 after Lethal retained the ROH Title tonight. (Video of Lethal-Elgin post-show backstage confrontation)

– The next ROH cable PPV will be the 14th Anniversary show in February from Las Vegas featuring New Japan involvement.

– Jerry Lynn was not the only Minnesota wrestling legend in attendance. Sean Waltman was backstage at Final Battle in Philadelphia, per a crotch-chopping tweet with the Young Bucks.
