WWE Tough Enough TV Report
July 14, 2015
Week 4 on USA Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

This week's Tough Enough episode started with a look inside the Full Sail Tough Enough studio. Chris Jericho and Renee Young were standing by to introduce the show and introduce the judges of Daniel Bryan, Hulk Hogan, and Paige.

Bryan noted he's the Kiss of Death picking the eliminated contestant the first three weeks. Paige said she has been tough on a certain someone (Sara Lee), so she expects her to step up this week. Hogan tried to be mysterious saying he has some secrets to share and thinks someone needs to go this week.

Jericho sent to footage of last week. ... Last Tuesday night, Chelsea Green joined the Tough Enough cast, replacing Dianna. Chelsea was sent to the Tough Enough house while the other contestants were at the studio, she got drunk at the house, and waited for everyone to come home. Sara Lee was not pleased by this.

The night continued with Amanda and Gabi resuming their tired argument about who was the faker girl. Sara said this is pointless since they're both fake.

Off to the training center to meet Booker T, Billy Gunn, and Lita for this week's challenge. Booker jumped right to this week's competition "entertaining the audience with promos." Hogan sent to a video package on great promos in history. First was Hogan with the cartoony WWF promos. This was placed in the same category as Ric Flair, then The Rock soundbytes. Chris Jericho was next, then King Barrett showed up. Sara said Barrett is one of her favorite Superstars.

Barrett, who does a cartoony king promo right now on WWE TV, entered the ring to talk about the promo being to (a) entertain, (b) get over a character, and (c) advance a storyline. How about draw money? Talk people into the seats? Produce income?

Barrett noted there are three King of the Rings standing in the ring right now - himself, Booker, and Gunn. He said he has some bad news that all must hail King Barrett. Lita said all of them have to cut a promo telling Barrett why they will be King or Queen of the Ring next year.

WWE cut to soundbyte clips of the contestants cutting promos, then soundbytes of Barrett evaluating them. Not enough time spent on the evaluation, and they suddenly cut back to Booker thanking Barrett for being here today.

Next was The Improv. Patrick figured out that with an empty stage they were going to end up on the stage. Chris Jericho showed up and Z.Z. figured out that they were about to be on the stage. Jericho explained to the contestants that they will have a promo battle.

(1) Josh vs. Mada. Mada entered heel promo mode screaming in Josh's face like Rusev. Josh then entered last week's British Brawler character to cut a promo on Mada with a British accent.

(2) Chelsea vs. Giorgia. Chelsea explained a promo instead of cutting a promo. Giorgia ate her up with some rhymes.

(3) Patrick vs. Tanner. Tanner talked dryly, then the show cut to Patrick cutting into Tanner.

(4) Gabi vs. Amanda. Gabi talked to the crowd about herself, then Amanda cut a promo on Gabi.

(5) Z.Z. vs. Sara Lee. Sara told Z.Z. to bow down and ask for forgiveness. Z.Z. went fo rcomedy cutting back at her. Jericho wanted to see some fire and personality. He then stepped up to Sara, getting in her face and demanding to see her fight back. Sara finally did, and they finished with a close-up of Sara in Jericho's face.

Suddenly, WWE cut back to the Full Sail studio for an overly-rehearsed bit between Hogan and Paige. It was a random conversation acting as if they were off the air or something. Paige said Sara is frustrating her and Hogan said he doesn't think Sara belongs here.

Back to the Improv from earlier in the week. Jericho brought up the five singles winners - Amanda, Giorgia, Z.Z., Mada, and Patrick. Mada tried to fire up the crowd to counter crowd pops for Z.Z. Patrick got the best pop to win and Giorgia won for the ladies. This led to Mada and Patrick having a verbal battle. Suddenly, a drink was tossed in Patrick's face. He told Josh to go back to the Packers practice squad. Mada then pushed Z.Z. into Patrick. Patrick fired back at Mada that he'll outwork all of the big guys who just lift. Josh got back in the mix and Patrick had enough of all of them. Tanner was nowhere to be found, interestingly.

Back at the house, the five female contestants hung out in the kitchen. Gabi heard them talking about her never winning a competition. She said she was being professional and did not go off on Amanda during the promo battle. Amanda said she thinks Gabi is being fake.

Off to Tanner and Chelsea hanging out in the house. Tanner said he tried Sara Lee, but she turned him down, so he's moving on to Chelsea. Sad flirting, then Tanner smooched Chelsea, who acted surprised. That was weird.

Back to the studio for Hogan, Paige, and Bryan to react to Tanner trying to work on Chelsea. Hogan said Tanner has no game. Paige said Chelsea liked it too much. Apparently this is a new thing incorporating segment-by-segment reaction from the judges heading to break.

Back at Full Sail, Jericho and Renee said the contestants need to stop kissing and start kicking ass.

Off to the Performance Center. Booker said yesterday was about promos, and today is about physicality. Gunn demonstrated a basic shoulder tackle and bodyslam for the challenge. They cut to clips of the males going fine scoopslams. But, the females had trouble. Sara had trust issues having hung around the other females in the house. They're really trying to get Sara off this show.

They cut to Gabi and Amanda trying to work together on a scoopslam. Lita said they need to be professional and work together in the ring. Gunn finally had enough of Sara, pushing her to get it right. Amanda said in a talking head that she was embarrassed for Sara. Booker and Co. then handed out awards - Chelsea won for the females and Josh for the males, prompting Patrick to call it 15 seconds of fame getting something right.

No cut-away to reaction from Hogan, Bryan, and Paige heading to break.

[Commercial Break]

Back on the show, the ladies talked to Sara inside the house, asking if she just had a bad day or of this isn't for her. Sara teared up, then wiped her eyes as the ladies tried to pep-talk her that everyone is trying to push her and poke the bear to see if she'll fight back. Chelsea put over Sara for taking the verbal beating from Jericho and Gunn the last two days. She said she's trying not to let it go to her, but it is. Sara broke down, noting she doesn't have the professional athletic background like the other females and now she has everyone yelling at her and she feels deflated.

Back at Full Sail, the contestants were now assembled in the studio. They zoomed in on Sara solemnly watching the footage. Awkward pause. Where's the theme music? Cue the theme! There it is. Cue the applause. Jericho defended himself that there is a difference between yelling and motivating. He said he tried to draw something out of her at the Improv.

After a rundown of the remaining contestants standing on the stage, Jericho went to break with a teaser for the judges grilling the contestants next.

[Commercial Break]

From Full Sail University, Jericho set up the judges to ask the contestants some questions. Paige, of course, brought forward Sara Lee. She said she thought Sara was edgy and naturally beautiful when she first saw her, and now she's just disappointed her. Paige continued to cut a promo on Sara, then Sara fought back that she is different and she is trying to stand out because she isn't a bikini clone, which she thought Paige would appreciate. Paige shouted back to show her some passion. Jericho eventually cut off the back-and-forth and went to Bryan.

Bryan asked Sara what she thought about Gunn getting in her face. Sara said she was in her head, but trying to fight through, and had just picked up Z.Z. before working with the girls, so she was trying to adjust. Hogan spoke next that he will give Sara props for coming out of her shell when Jericho yelled at her, so don't stop. Keep coming.

Hogan then addressed Mata, saying he thinks he won the promo battle, and maybe yelling & screaming is not the way to go all the time, but he has a character. He believes in it and he made him believe in it. Hogan then called out Patrick for saying the big guys are gone. He said don't talk about out-working an opponent, but working with him. Hogan told Patrick to step up his promo skills and not just be the guy who knows about wrestling despite winning the promo challenge. Hogan told Patrick to be someone other than "Patrick, the smart mark."

Jericho then asked Josh about a sarcophagus, following up on the promo exchange with Mada. After a spelling battle, Jericho said it's time to select the Bottom Three for this week.

Paige picked Sara Lee again. Bryan picked Gabi. He said Gabi brings a lot of entertainment, but doesn't seem to have a concept of a promo. Hogan talked about promos selling tickets, then picked Tanner because he's faded into the background after starting strong on this season.

Jericho said the twist on their promo save is they get to cut a promo on the judge who picked them for the Bottom 3. Gabi's "promo" was explaining herself "to" Bryan, not cutting a promo "on" Bryan. Jericho explained the deal to Tanner before addressing Hogan. Tanner missed the point, even after getting a second chance. So, it was Sara's chance to actually cut a promo on her judge, Paige. Sara stepped up to Paige on the stage, saying she thinks Paige is scared of her because she will be a Diva one day and they will face off in the ring. What then? Paige applauded the face-to-face exchange and Sara stepped back in line.

[Commercial Break]

Back from break, WWE showed the Bottom 3 standing on the stage as votes were counted. Jericho asked Amanda who should go home. Gabi, of course. She said Gabi is sabotaging everyone. Josh mumbled through an explanation on Gabi, and Chelsea said Sara just saved herself with the promo.

Off to the voting results. But, first, a save? No from all three judges. Jericho said one of the three is going home tonight. Jericho told Sara that she is not going home and she is staying here. Sara said she is glad to hear that. So, either Gabi or Tanner is going home.

The result was ... Gabi with 11 percent of the vote. Tanner had 26 percent and Sara Lee had 63 percent. The studio went silent, then Renee approached Gabi to ask her if she lost her edge this week. Gabi said she didn't know how to do a promo, and she believes this is the end of one chance and the beginning of another chance.

Renee asked if she's glad to be leaving the show. "I am, to be honest with you," she said. She said she didn't come here to pick fights, but to learn how to wrestle. And that did not happen. Who should win? Gabi picked Sara Lee, saying she has the heart and passion for this. Renee awkwardly wished Gabi well in her future and her eyes bugged out, selling that she wanted to take Gabi's head off.

Jericho signed off, noting they continue the journey next week.
